The ride leaves the Greengrocer Cafe and Cycle Shop at the corner of Clifford and Ellesmere Streets. This is the gathering point for cyclist in town and has an extensive range of cycling supplies and great food and coffee.
This ride is good for those carrying panniers who would like to camp overnight at the Gorge.
Turn left out of the cafe down Clifford Street until you reach a T intersection at the Police Station. Turn right into Sloane Street. The Information Centre is 200 metres along on your left hand side.
1.15km from the Greengrocer, turn left into Blackshaw Road and go under the railway. After 1.5km veer right into Park Road and continue past the playing ovals.
At 2km, you reach a roundabout, turn right here into Forbes Road.
At 2.95km, veer left onto Bungonia Road, take care with cars coming from your right off the bridge.
At 4.35km you cross over the Hume Highway. Continue straight ahead and at 5 km turn left into Mountain Ash Road. There is a sign indicating Bungonia Gorge.
Stay on this road all the way to the township of Bungonia.
You are mostly climbing through farmland to the 14km mark. This is quite a steep climb. After this it is mostly downhill with undulations through farmland and scattered bushland.
At 27.5km you cross a creek and enter the small town of Bungonia. Veer around to the right and turn left into Lookout Road at 27.90km. There is a sign indicating Bungonia Gorge.
At this current point, there is no shop or opportunity to get supplies.
Continue through undulating countryside and pretty farmland until you reach the gate into the Bungonia State Conservation Area, at 36km.
Ride along another 200m and on your left is the Rangers Office and a small shop with supplies. You may need to check the opening hours before departing Goulburn. Here you can organise to camp in the Park. A great spot with very tame Kangaroos and an opportunity to have a camp fire depending on the season.
Continue onto the 38km mark and you reach a spectacular lookout and the start of some great walks.
Return to Goulburn the same way, or if heading back to Sydney, turn left just after the Bungonia township (after you cross over the bridge). This road will take you back to the Hume Highway near Marulan, 25km north east of Goulburn. The road is bitumen although quiet rough.
