Hi all!

I'm soon to turn 30 and I decided I wanted to acheive something special to commemorate this milestone.

I setteled on running a marathon, "not because it's easy, but because it is hard", as JFK would put it. =)

My goal is to finish the Hunolulu Maraton on December 12th 2010. I will try to go from couch to marathon in a year and a half.

I would like to collect your thoughts about this course, and if any first-time marathoner is planning on chosing this same race, I would be delighted to keep in touch and share progress. Some kind of a motivationnal thing.

Thanks,

Waka

 Hey All,

I'm really new to running but I'm currently on track to run a 5k and 10k within the next month and a half. My ultimate goal is to complete one of the Toronto marathons this fall, but I'm not sure which I should go for. I've heard that the waterfront race is fast and flat, but the date of the Toronto marathon in October is more appealing. I'm just wanting to finish upright this first time around and would appreciate any advice on which race would be the better experience for a total newbie.

Many Thanks!

I am getting ready to run my first marathon ever! I have been training since July and my training has gotten me to 20.5 miles. I am pretty nervous about the whole experiance of the marathon. I dont know if I have prepaired myself enough for what is about to happen. The race is the P.F. Changs Rock and Roll Marathon in Phoenix AZ, the 18th of this month and I was supposed to run it with 5 of my co-workers. Two of them decided to just do the half marathon, and two more just plain old dropped out, and one is injured and is unsure if she will be able to run. I was looking forward to having somone on the course with me, but it dosent look like that is going to happen. I am worried about my clothes, will they chaff, my socks, will they give me blisters??? It will be cold when I start, but will warm up as I go, will a long sleve shirt be to warm by the end?? So many things to think about! Any advice you could give would be great!!!

I have been training since October 07 for my attempt at the Whistlestop Marathon in Ashland Wisconsin.

Unfortunately I have had a few set backs - my longest distance to date is 16 miles. Will do 18 this weekend. I am a 50 year old female. I am very very slow . . . 12:45 to 13 min. miles - but want to try to finish in under 6 hours. Will I do a lot of long term damage to myself or will it just hurt (physically and mentally!!) if I cannot complete it?

Any comments are welcomed. I do not have a running buddy.

Thanks!
