Anyone own an Edge 705 or other GPS device and experiencing the same problem?  Today I did a ride and my Edge 705 said total ascent was 2006 feet however, when I uploaded my ride here for the TDF challenge it says my total ascent was on 1214 feet!  My Edge 705 is up to date with recent version my Garmin Training Center matches with my GPS whats the deal here???? any ideas?

I find that the ascent data on MapMyRide is approximately 50% of the ascent data I get from my Garmin 705.  I've compared ascent data with other Garmin users (various models) and my unit is working properly.  My guess is there is a difference in how Garmin calculates ascent versus MapMyRide.

I've also noticed a huge discrepancy between between what riders get in the field and the total ascent figures in the mapmyride profile calculations (typically mapmyride is about 50% of the field values). Using the raw data and and Excel spreadsheet gives an answer that seems a bit on the high side.

A google search reveals that there have been previous discussions in this forum but as yet no satisfactory answer. Surely someone must have gone into the matter of synchronising the method of calculating total ascent so that field units, mapmyride and calcs using raw data give similar answers.
