I have a recumbent bike and i am planning on a long tour.  What is the best to carry gear?  Panniers or trailers.

sorry, i had a good answer for this, but i have no experience with bents.  i do own a burley nomad that is great.  it is stable when riding and easy to access stuff (which it can haul LOTS of).  when climbing i might rather have panniers because you can get a wierd push pull thing and with the trailer, and there is less weight on the back wheel if you stand up (obviously not on recumbent) you lose some traction.

I've toured with a trailer and loved almost everything about it. the ONE sketchy thing about it is its hard-to-see low profile... cross-traffic can think you're safely past and then take you down if it clips the trailer. Not a huge issue, but something to think about if your 'bent is a design that's already lower visibility.

B.O.B is the way to go. Used one on the C&O. If you want to make a side trip all you have to do is pull two pins and drop the trailer.
