Help!: Comments longer than 250 Characters?

I am sure that there is a great reason to have comments throttled to 250 characters, but it really does not seem like enough. I run travel quite a bit and often use public routes to find runs wherever I am. I like to leave a note when I do, but it is way too much of a pain to try to "guess" when I have reached 250 characters.... At least maybe find a way to report how many characters I have used....?
