Hi Folks-

The process of migrating routeslip users and routes to mapmyride is complete. Routeslip account holders should now have accounts on mapmyride that preserve their routeslip username and password and routes. All routes created on routeslip.com as of December 29th 2007 should now be on mapmyride.

For now, you may still create routes on routeslip.com, but over the next several weeks routeslip.com will be phased out as we transition fully to the new map routing engine from mapmyfitness.

Roteslip users, please kick the tires around mapmyride and tell us what you think.

Can you post a link to a route that you're having this problem with(routeslip.com link and mapmyride.com link)?

Did you use the same email address for registration for the mapmyride and routeslip accounts? If so, I would have expected your routes to merge. I will specifically investiage this merging and report back.

Hi Jeff, thanks for a quick response. Here is a link to a route I did with routeslip.com which has been merged to MMR. The link address on MMR is: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/ca/guerneville/384673242 The link to the same ride on routeslip is: http://www.routeslip.com/routes/48869. You'll see from the title to the route at MMR, that the route should be 64.69 miles, but when I open it in MMR, the route info shows 84.4 miles. There are 3 erroneous straight lines added to the route. This is happening on many rides.

In truth, however, if you can't get all the text/notes info from routeslip, then a user would have to open the migrated route, and go back through it manually adding all the notes at the correct markers. This might well take more time than it would to just redo the route using "follow roads" and let the program enter the notes automatically.

Thanks for all your work. I think MMR and routeslip are both great, and I look forward to the future evolution of the site.

I've been looking at my old routeslip routes that have been migrated to
MMR. Almost all of them seem to have extra mileage and crazy out and
back points added in that were not part of the original. They also
don't have any of the notes or directional info that were there. Is
this happening to anybody else?

Yes, it's happened to my routes also. Here's an example:

http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/md/brandywine/85189650

I called this ride Patuxent Surprise #28 because the distance was 28 miles. The listing says it's 28.28 miles. However, when you display the route, the routeinfo says it's 36.5 miles, and there's a spurious out-and-back section going across the lower quarter of the route.

Also, printing the route gives you a map and an elevation profile, but no cues at all.

Same is true for http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/md/brandywine/144420717,

Patuxent Surprise #50.

Jeff,

I see all the same issues outlined by palincss and sherrick in my routes as well.

Example:

http://www.routeslip.com/routes/42267

http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/mi/w.-bloomfield/704049981

Additionally, if I select edit for any of the routes all data points are non existent. Basically I am starting to create the route from scratch; I get the Google Maps view of the whole planet.

Hi Guys-

A quick update for you: I believe that I have identified the issue here. It appears that during the migration, some of the point ordering information failed to trasfer. Sco77, in the example you posted, it looks like all of the correct points are there, but in the incorrect order. I am working with Ryan to correct this, and at this point I believe that we'll be able to fully restore the affected routes.

I apologize for the inconvenience, and I'll update this thread as we progress. I fully expect to have a complete fix this week.

We are re-running our migration script as we speak. I've fixed the routes mentioned in this thread first.

Sherrick, your fixed route can now be found here.

Sco77, your fixed route can now be found here.

The complete routeslip route database should be fully re-transitioned over the next 48 hours. In the meantime,if there are any routeslip routes that anyone would like moved to the head of the line, please post the routeslip link here.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, and thank y'all for the valuable feedback that helped us find this issue.

The routeslip routes have been re-migrated, and from all accounts the "spurious out and back" issue has been resolved. I have been in touch with a few of you privately and things are looking good.

With respect to the route notes, we will be releasing a new version of our route engine soon with enhanced route notes capabilities, but in the meantime we've left routeslip.com enabled so you can use the note features there.

As always, please post your feedback here.

All my routes were migrated and appear to be OK except that I can't edit them. They load OK (route looks correct) but when I go to edit them (Click Edit Route) I get the world map as if I am in mapping a brand new route.

If I create a new route in mapmyride everything seems to be OK (Can edit)

Behaviour is same in IE 7 and FireFox 2.0

We have transitioned all of the routes from routeslip.com- are you having problems finding them on this site? If you used the same email address from your routeslip.com registration, your old routes should be populated in you 'my profile' here. Is this not the case for you?

It seems like you've taken the stance that if you ignore the people from routeslip.com, that they will go away. That's probably a pretty safe bet. I get the impression that MMR didn't aquire routeslip.com to improve their own product, but rather to eliminate competition. It's really a shame. While it had its quirks, routeslip.com was a good tool that was pretty easy to use. It's a shame you got rid of it. Looks like I need to find another site.
