haha pappypage, I wish I was fast enough to be on tv for running!! Maybe one day...nice run btw
I ran 19 today. The first 15 were with a few of my teammates, then I ran a few by myself for a bit and then I ran into a female friend (who is very fast!) and ran with her for awhile. I didn't take any GU or anything like that and didn't fall off, so I think my body is starting to learn to store glycogen better.
Yesterday about an hour after my 15 miler I began to have pain on the outside of my right foot just in front of my heel. It is a constant dull pain that becomes sharp when I put weight on my heel. It feels OK when I first begin to walk if I have been sitting awhile, but after I am on my feet it gets progressively worse.
Plan for now it to rest until it feels better and pray if it is a stress fracture that it will heal fast. Never had a stress fracture so not know how to diagnose it.
Ran 17.5kms yesterday a lovely afternoon run. Round the Tan, through Fed Square, round behind the G - a really nice tour of the city and nice sunny arvo. Used a Gu at 55mins - as I have not run long since the half in June.
6min pace - very comfortable pulled up really well this morning. On track for Sandy Half in two weeks, and the Melbourne Marathon in October. Rest day to day
did 10/day for the 2nd half of the week then a 15 mile long run yesterday, nothing interesting. Tomorrow i'm going to our high school camp as a counselor. The camp is in Cloudcroft, New Mexico and all the running is done on mountain trails at around 9000ft. These kids wont know what hit them, they are gonna be so sore they cant walk after day 2 and its a 5 day camp ;). I took today off to rest up for it myself. I just hope none of them get lost cause last year we had to run back up the mountain and find some of them.
great running everyone!
8 miles last night according to my Nike Plus - which seemed to take forever. Checked my route on mapmyrun and turns out it was 9.75miles.... will have to drive it tonight and double check. Has anyone else experienced distance problems with Nike Plus?
On the positive side - at least I know I can run for almost 2hrs which will stand me in good stead for the upcoming half in September....
SimmoT - that'll learn ya! That sudden realisation that you have zero energy and you know you could've (should've) avoided it doesn't make you feel very clever.
Had to send my (almost) brand new HR monitor in to get the cracked face plate replaced so i'm without a training aid of any kind. 8k at steady aerobic effort. Time? No idea!
Lots of miles being piled on by some of you. Way to go.
rest day today for me ,.felt great,.no soreness after 18 long run yesterday suprisingly. starting to wonder if i should experiment with some kind of energy supplements on long runs. i run with two 9 oz bottles of water during run and nothing else,.any opinions on using or not using supplements?? i seem to loose almost all my energy around 16 miles.. has happenened every time for last 3 long runs. not sure how i will make 26 if i dont figure out how to overcome this problem,. i hav been doing interval workouts on saturday with my son on the track,. wondering if these are too much the day before long run on sun.i will try and switch sat workout to fri rest day and rest to sat to see if this is the problem,.anyone else having this problem??
kdogg my "new" socks arrived today,.. will try them tommorrow,. can't wait,. the newspaper trick has worked well, so i am hoping the socks provide the other half of the solution. ty
pappypage - I would definitely recommend taking something to eat along the run. By the looks of things you have the same problem I had (see my post) where you just run out of energy.... Especially given the fact that you are not really sore (neither am i)... i.e. it' s probably not your form, just lack of fuel! I am gonna eat my way around 32kms on Sunday that's for sure..
ExKiwi - bad luck 'bout the watch.... I reckon it'd be nice to go for a run without recording the time or looking at my pulse for a change.... I must do that...
Sunday was a nice easy 90 min run. Today I wanted to go for a normal run - coach agreed. So I did just over 12 km in 54 mins. Just under 4.30 pace which is the quickest for any decent distance I have run. Hopefully I can transfer that to my long run on the weekend.
I think Thursday could be a killer!!
Welcome to all the newbies
Did 8 miles today in 53:51. Man it was hot,and humid should have went in the morning. First 5 miles felt great but had to take a bathroom break for about 1 minute at mile 6. The last 2 miles felt horrible, slowed down a little. The heat got to me. at least now i know not to run at 2p.m!
Giggles - every mile counts, there are whole suburbs of people not leaving their couch, so log it and be happy!!!
I had Personal Training today - whole body work out for an hour, lots of core, legs and strength training. Good for the soul
I've been doing a fair bit of swimming this last week. Low impact and good fun. Been trying to give my joints a bit of a rest while still usinmg all the muscles.
Oh, and my boyfriend introduced me to Badmintion. I was impressed how much I ached the day after (we did 2 hours and he gave me a decent work out running backwards and forwards accross the court learning how to go for different shots etc). I guess all the lunging and dashing and emergency stops uses very different muscles to the rest of my training.
Today I did my long run- 15km in about 1:45. Doubt I will make my aim of the HM in under 2 hours, but that was always a pipe dream anyway! My main aim is still to finish :)
gfinkelde - was your 4:30 pace relaxed? If so, you're looking good for your goal time at Melbourne.
I got in 6k yesterday with a 15 minute tempo in the middle then followed up with a very relaxed steady state 6k this morning. I have to say there has been no sign of achilles problems since restarting so I put a lot of that down to replacing both pairs of shoes I was using - neither of which should have been used for the sorts of milages I was doing. Note to self: stay away from Cross Trainers even when on a budget! The number of years I've been running you'd think I'd know that!
drove my route and my 8mile did indeed turn out to be 9.75miles! no wonder it took so long :)
Anikissed - our times look similar. I am hoping to do my HM in Sept in 2.5hrs - so will be a bonus if any less than that! When is yours?
Hey folks, been away for a week or so as I decided to give my body plenty of rest time after the race. My knees and feet were feeling sore, so I have spent the past week praying that I don't strain a tendon or pull my hamstrings and that I don't develop the dreaded PF. (I can't even bring myself to say it).
Today was the day however, well it was supposed to be yesterday but I did kickboxing in the morning, then when I went to the run club they were doing bootcamp and that's just too much circuit training for me. Was going to run on my own last night but it was so darn hot that I decided to leave it to this morning.
So another 4am run for me!! Actually I quite like it - nice and cool and quiet. Once you're up, you're up! Did just over 3 miles in 31 mins. 9.1min/mile pace so okay for an easy run.
Now just 14 hours of work before I can snooze!
Glad to hear everyone is doing so good! Got my 1/2 marathon in 10 weeks and a 14k race in 4 weeks. Toying with the idea of the seattle half in November too.
kdogg : i put 9.5 miles on the new "ultra balega socks" in some serious humidity this morning and the "dogs" were completely dry after the run,.i was extremely impressed with the comfort, drynes and how cool they kept my feet...awesome!..i wil try the "balega stryders" tommorrow,. but i think already i am sold on the "ultra's"..ty again for the advice.
now if i can figure out the "fuel" issue before marathon i should be ready roll.,..those of you who are running the marathons this fall, what types of food or supplements are you using during your runs??..this is very new to me, and i hav been reading articles on line, but there are sooo many its overwelming,.and time for experimenting is getting pretty short. i bought some "power bars" that claim to refuel during runs, and "nutrament shake 12 oz drinks that claim the same, i will experiment with these next couple runs,.but they taste pretty gross.
Had one of those all-too-rare runs last night where everything just feels perfect. It managed to just glide along at a comfortable marathon pace for 17km...
Kdogg, pappypage, I think I am gonna have to get some of those socks...they sound awesome.
LexB - when are you gonna sign yourself up for a marathon? heh he
Hi all,
2km warm up then tempo run 4km pushed hard against the group at the end. Then did 8 hills of Anderson St at the Tan. As well one of those rare occasions where I felt sensational the whole time. So I ran another lap of the tan doing it in intervals. Still felt awesome after. I think I'll get a solid 10km in tomorrow, 15km Sat and 30km Sunday.
Cant believe how good im feeling. Guys in the group are impressed and that feels good to get the peer recognition! Sandy point half is surely going to be my best time!
Harro if you are doing 8 hill reps of Anderson st you will fly over a flat half.
How good does it feel when you get on that roll. Everything feels good, the rhythym is there. You feel like you could run forever.
Ex kiwi - I have had 2 excellent relaxed medium runs this week. They have felt really good. Today was a nice run around the dockands and the river. Havet spent a lot of time down there so it was good to run around there. Did a bit over 13 kms, in a bit over an hour. Nice ride home to nearly beat the rain - nearly. Have a great weekend guys and girls
omg, slacked off this week so far!!!!
Went on vacation to the beach, and ran 1 time for about 4.8 miles along the beach. If you want a different workout, I recommend running on a beach. I think if I'd run much further, I might have hurt myself. I could feel a read difference in the lower leg muscles.
Have'nt posted in a while. I did speed drills on Tues for about 3 miles, ran a total of 4.5mi. Today I ran 5.58, but my time was horrible. I was dragging at the end. I am scheduled to run a 10K in 3 weeks and I can barely make a good 5.5 run. Very frustrating. I think the heat is having an impact. I need to get on the bike tomorrow to change things up a bit.
FBP -- It is possible that you have exercise induced asthma. I have been an astmatic since I was a kid. But now I only have attacks when I am exercising. The attacks come on whenever. There are good days and bad days. Sometimes it depends on pollen, general air quality, cold or humidity. If I am running and someone is mowing the lawn nearby,I feel an attack coming on. I know it is not a good feeling. I actually run with my inhaler just in case.
Hi all,
New to this site and not from the big old U S of A!! I'm in wee bonnie Scotland!
Hi FBP, agree with brooklyngrrl, think you may have an excercised induced asthma. I do, and feel it at the end of my runs, and I have never been diagnosed with asthma, but told by my GP that I must have a mild form of it anyway!!
Found this site by accident. Love how I can actually see how many miles I am running! Thought I was doing less than I actually was...Yippeeee!!
Not ran for a while but getting there slowly. Ran London Marathon couple of years ago and gone down hill ever since! OHNO!! Need to get back into it seriously. Need something to destress me after work.
Climbing Ben Lomond tomorrow. 1000 metres, nice climb, brilliant views over Loch Lomond and miles beyond it. Can't wait. Love to camp on shores of the Loch when weather permits. Cant beat it!
I ran a 4k (2.5 mile) race on the grass tonight, it was terrible. 12:27 (5:00, 4:58, 2:29)
I can't remember the last time that a 5:00 mile felt that hard. When I saw that I split 5:00 for the first mile, I was like omfg that felt like a 4:40. Luckily I was able to come back and negative split, but still, this is frustrating.
I wasn't doing the little things right and I paid for it today with a race that is way under my capabilities. I'll bounce back this Saturday for my tempo run
Welcome Big C
My brother lives in Arygyll - was up there a couple of months ago - you can't beat west Scotland - so lovely:)
Repeated my interval training last night on the treadmill. so much better with the breathing. guess I'll just try and avoid the pollen/grass seasons. Good/exhausting workout but better for it.
Long (for me anyway) run on Sunday - 9miles..
Feeling a little envious of some of you in terms of your condition. (gfinkelde, SimmoT, Harro8). Still working up to mine.
Big C: welcome to the club. Not all the runners are from the big ol' US. There's a handful of us in and around Melbourne, Australia and a few others dotted around the place. Makes for lots of different times of day for postings and a huge range of weather conditions. (Cold here now, hot up there.)
8k steady run on Thursday followed by 6k with 6 x 200 repeats on Friday. Will do 13k tomorrow (actually it will be later today - just watching the last of the athletes marching on to the field in Beijing as I write this so it's now Saturday morning here) then a day off Sunday.
Enjoy the weekend all.
just a quick 8 miles this morning,. been on vacation this week, so had this week planned as step back week,. speed work on track tommorrow with son ,. and then attempt my first 20 miler sun..gonna try the energy drinks along way this time.
dont worry kdogg, cant set new pr's every race.. "espn will still be callin you soon
."
easy 6 miler today on the trails, 53'50 ish so just under 9min pace which is great for me. Felt good running too, quite focussed and on the ball. Was trying to pay attention to my gait - which I think is poor. How do you learn to run with a straight spine? I can't help but sway! Going for 9 miles easy on Sunday and then full on into my 1/2m schedule.
I'm off to buy my New Balance 1062's today - can't resist it and my feet have been hellish sore since that last race so squidgy NB's are in order. Plus with the 14k race and 1/2 coming up....
SimmoT - my first Marathon I want to be the London Marathon. I am hoping I won't be in the UK in 2009 so I am aiming for 2010 - until then I have to resist temptation!
Kdogg... ONLY a 5 min mile... sheesh...
Won't be enjoying the olympics as I am trying to 'boycot' it (I know not watching it on TV won't make that much difference but it's the principle) - although I will be sorely tempted to tune in for Paula Radcliffe and the rowing!
Hi All:
This is my first time posting in this area. Yesterday I did a 15 miler...today an easy 3 miles - getting ready for a 5K race tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how it goes.
Happy Running!
good luck tommorrow aldiara88,. enjoy your 1st half,.nothing like the feeling you get when you cross that finish line. enjoy ..
good luck with the 5k gilly32,.
speed work today at track with son,. 6:39 mile,. great for me,.fastest i ran 20 years ago was 6:18,. so i am closing in,. held back a bit since i am doin first 20 mile tommorrow. if it goes well i celebrate by locking in registration for oct marathon tommorrow nite...finnally!!1...
