    Hi all

I've just started running in Perth Australia where the temperature goes up to 45c. I think today it was a mild 36celcius, but it was my first time running in the heat and sun. I'm a pretty confident runner and used to doing 8-10ks a day, but today I couldn't even managed 4ks due to the heat. My throat got so dry that every breath I took started to hurt my throat and lungs. And when finished and went into my room, I feel dizzy and weak eventhough I have not been sweating that much (compared to my other runs). Is this normal??

Neways... if anyone can give me a few pointers in running in the heat that would be so great!

I'm afraid I can't give you any tips... I live in Perth too and make sure I'm out and running no later than 8.30am... the earlier the better really!

I see people running in the middle of the day and wonder how they can do it... but then again I'm a total novice runner so perhaps its an endurance you can build up.

Guess you need to make sure you keep hydrated.

Sorry I couldnt help - good luck with it :)

I'm in Melbourne and we have had some really hot days this summer (although nothing like Perth) I too try to run first thing of a morning when it is cooler. My energy levels seem to be higher then anyway. If you have no other choice but to run during the heat, try to find some shady places to run and drink heaps! I have also found all the you-beaut running gear (Climalite etc) is really great to keep you cooler than in standard gear.

    Anyway, hope this helps....
