Hello I am Margaret and I hope to create a group of us who are over 50 and enjoy walking.  I have found that walking every day has improved the arthritis in my knees. The theory is that wakling keeps the joints from seizing up.  I look forward to chatting and sharing info with likeminded people.  Thank you for taking the time to read this.  Mags.Smile

    Hi  Margaret

I also am in my 50s and walk. I tried running a bit but its too hard on my knees and hips.I like the mapping program here because it keeps me motivated. I would rather sit!

    Hi There,

I have been with Mapmywalk for a while now. Great site. I will be 60 at the end of the year and have decided I want to lose some weight and get fit by then. And hopefully stay that way! I walk about 3-4 times a week and do a minimum of 3-4 kms (I live in Australia by the way). I have done that "Walk a Marathon" in a month and made it each time. Going again for April. Need all the incentive I can get.

I have been reading about walking sticks (like Nordic sticks) and wonder if you have ever used them. If so, do they really help?

Let me know. And keep walking!

    G'day,

I'm another Aussie and I'm well into the over 50s age-group.

I've just joined MayMyWalk and have a couple of walking routes mapped, but I'm still feeling my way around this site.  I walk an average of 5 km a day (I think!) but I've found the distances estimated onthis are less than the distances I've measured with the car.

Late last year I had major back surgery and I discovered that walking is the best exercise for people with sore backs.  Not sure about knees.  Anyway, I go by the "Use it or Lose it" philosophy, which becomes a bit more important at our age.

     Cheers,
