Hi,
I've recently started swimming as a part of my fitness training (I run and do martial arts so trying to build strength and stamina for both). I go swimming four times a week (at least) for between 15 mins to 1hr depending on what other activities I have done / am planning to do.

I love swimming - heck I'm a marine biologist so I have to! My problem is my swimming technique - it's lousy! I swim like a girl (okay so I am a girl but still) and I want to swim properly. I usually do breast stroke (my crawl technique is even worse).

Today I narrowed this down to the fact that I don't know how to do the breathing properly, I think if I got the breathing sorted (for B-S or Crawl) I could work on the technique

Can anyone give me any pointers? I'd really appreciate it!

Cheers

Lex

Hey LexB,

The best video on the market is Go Swim Freestyle with Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen. It really helped me learn to swim. It includes a laminated drill card for you at the pool.

Goodluck.

Search YouTube for videos on swim techniques and/or consider a private swim lesson or two. I've been amazed at how much I learn in a 1/2 hr swim lesson! Happy training ~

if you wanna speed up your swimming, and perfect your breathing down to bettering your stroke, try breathing every 3 strokes/pulls.
