For over a year now, I've been wanting to compete in a 5K race. Well, this year, I finally set my mind to it. I needed to lose a little weight and lower my cholesterol anyway, and I knew the only chance I had of sticking with running was to actually pick a race and register.
I used a beginner's 5K training program from Runner's World, and tried my best to stick with it. Being in Minnesota, the treadmill was my friend, but it still wasn't easy.
In early March, I discovered this site - and it was a great morale booster for me! Being able to track my progress so easily, and see that, yes, there was progress. Being able to map out a route and know how far I'm going...and reading the forums to see the issues and advice from others. It was just what I needed.
I'm happy to say that I ran my 5K over the weekend with a goal of 27:00...and finished in 24:29! I felt great, and was comfortable and focused the entire time.
Thanks in part to this site and everyone here, I'm excited about continuing to run, and I'm already looking forward to registering for another race!

Congrats Dave,
Keep up the good work, and just because you finished make sure you keep up the hard work!

"beware, those 5k's are addicting. "
LOL - Yeah...I've already made a list of other 5Ks in my area this summer/fall...!
Thanks again, everyone!
Good job, Dave!
Is a great time especially with a goal of 27min, keep up the good work!
