My marathon is in 6 weeks.  I missed my long run yesterday due to not really feeling that great and being out of town.  It was supposed to be a 8 miler.  Today is supposed to be my rest day.  Should I just take today as my rest day and pick up tomorrow as usual, do I add in some extra miles during my tempo runs, or do I do my long run today?

I don't think doing my long run today would be beneficial because then I'd have to take another rest day tomorrow messing up my schedule.  Advice is appreciated!

Brost - for me, if I miss a run, I miss a run and don't try and compensate for that in other runs later in the week, instead I simply just keep following my plan. The same goes for when I'm ill. Like you say, your timetable will get messed up and you've only missed one run. I reckon you're far enough out from the marathon for it hopefully not to make too much difference.

All the best with the training, mate.

The run you've missed is 8 miles, so I think it wont make a difference. Whenever I've missed a long run due to work, etc, I try to run it as soon as possible in the following days by sacrificing a shorter run. If I've missed due to ill-health, though, its unavoidable and there's not a lot you can do except just stick to the plan, insofar as that is possible. Best of luck with your training!

It sounds like your long run of 8 miles was during a step back week in your mileage build up for the marathon.  I would not worry about the missed mileage.  Your body probably appreciates the extra day of rest and it should have minimal impact if you have otherwise been able to stay true to your training schedule.  A missed run is just that, do not try to make it up else where in your schedule.  It is not worth the risk of injury and not making it to the starting line.  Continue as if you had completed the run.  With six weeks to go you probably have a couple of more long runs before you start your taper, so do not sweat this missed run.  Keep plugging away and best of luck come marathon day!

You have plenty of time - don't worry. Missing an 8 miler is no big deal. I assume since you're 6 weeks away, you're also doing a longer run than that on the weekend. Missing the really long runs is a problem - 16, 18, 20 milers. Do everything you can to make the weekend runs from here on out.
