    Hi,

I was wondering is there anyway anyone knows of to avoid blisters?  I've had running trainers fitted and use anti blister running socks! and have also tried mole skin I tend to do 2-3 10 K a week.

I find with road running the blisters tend to not be too bad (Although they happen) but the cross country runs i'm finding blisters are appearing on my large toe and oddly enough right on the arch of my foot.  These tend to be about the size of a 50p piece and can be very sore.

I've read many articles on how to treat blisters once they occur but i must admit i tend to use a needle to drain the blister and depending on the soreness and size i use a blister plaster.

Can anyone give me any advice or tips on how to avoid further blisters.  I have heard of vaseline but this just seems extremely messy to me!

Have you had any luck with this?  I am getting a few blisters here as well and it's pretty demoralising when you feel it coming on during a run.  I get them on the inside of my foot near the ball of the foot - worse on the left foot than the right foot.

I have had less blisters since, I started wearing the wright double layer sock.

You can check them at this site http://www.wrightsock.com/anti-blister.html

    Good luck... Cool

I read somewhere on this website about using talcum/baby powder on your feet. I tried it yesterday and my existing blister didn't get any worse over 6 miles. Worth a try maybe?

Some hikers swear by antiperspirant on the feet, but I tend to tape areas prone to blisters.  I've had one on the arch of my foot, where my insert, the shoe, and my foot all meet.  For a while I taped my arch with a strip of duct tape running down the length of the foot, but the problem went away when I switched shoes and inserts.  I have a friend who recently had orthotics fitted and got an arch blister as well.

I also tape my great toe round with 3M's microfoam tape to prevent the blister between my great and second toes.  Athletic tape would probably work, too, but they often contain latex and I'm allergic to that.

I use duct tape - cheap and simple.  I put tiny strips over existing blisters if they happen so I can keep on running - they will stop the blister from getting worse, but usually I am using it as a preventitive measure Smile

I use it on my feet wherever I am prone to them (sides of big toes, balls of feet) when start upping my long runs or on the day of a race (if it's a half +).  I don't usually tape for small runs...

I only use small pieces on pressure points - if I overtape then it seems slippery in my shoe.....

I've been using duct tape for blisters since I was rollerblading in the 90's (ack!) - I swear by it, but it bugs my husband.... he doesn't like the feel - whereas I don't notice the tape at all.

I have had blister in the arch and the back of the foot too. When they are full of liquid I use a needle to drain it and then put moleskin on (when running) until healing. To prevent them now I use bodyglide (the same as for shafting) over my favorite blister spot Wink and did not get one since then... It is not messy at all and doesn't stain stocks. Seems to work well for me!

Body Glide works wonders.  I was having the same issue with large blisters on my right arch.  Since I started using it, I haven't had any problems.

I'm having the same problem.  I used to get them on the end of my pinky toe and second toe, but now they're appearing on the inside of my arch. I've used gold bond powder, and even wrapped my arch to prevent it from rubbing so much, but nothing is working.
