Hi, I'm 27, F, from Green Bay.  My goal is to lose 10% of my weight by the end of the year, so about 18 pounds.  And then if I can maintain that weight thru the holidays and winter... go for some more weight loss.  Wish me luck!

I'm Jacquie.  I started running a year and a half ago at 205 lbs.  I've been fluctuating between 170 and 180 lbs. I don't worry about it anymore, I just exercise and enjoy the gym and my runs.

    Hello Jacquie,

I agree, I also don't worry about as much I did a year ago.  One thing I need to work on is my running I do ok the treadmill it's different out on the road.

I feel that I exert myself more on the threadmill runs than outside. Get some upbeat music (calypso or soca for me) and just run.  Attempt a 3 mile race it may get you in the outside groove.

Personally, running outside vs the treadmill is a world of difference... and hurt for me.  Outside takes more of everything.  The first time I ran outside (in awhile) I thought my lungs were on fire.  My body screamed!  And I only did a fraction of what I can do on the treadmill.  But I need to get back out there.  I plan to do a 5k in 3 months.

The scale said that I lost 2 lbs on Tuesday, but then today after my mid-day workout I had a carrot muffin and on my way home I had a double chocolate cookie.  I've a love and hate relationship with the Au Bon Paine by the gym, I've tried skipping it but it does not work most of the time.  I do work-out a lot..I'm up at 5.30 am and at the gym and on the machines by 6.20 am.  I work out for 60 mins, sometimes 80 mins (very intense workouts).  Mostly running, spinning and sometimes a strength class.  In addition, I may go back during the midday for a 30 min run or to box. On Sundays, I run no less than 10 miles.  I'm very strict with my workouts and runs but have a problem applying the same attitude to my eating habits. Any suggestion?  (Might be if I start to post what I eat daily I may be able to control myself).

I ran 6.2 miles today and walked 5 miles with my husband, we stopped at the bagel shop but I only had a small ice coffee. I felt good that I did not eat any bagel.

I did spin class this morning for an hours - afterward ran 1 mile on the treadmil which took 15 minutes I need to work on my speed.  I felt so good after the run decided to work on my swimming did only 4 laps, but I have to say it's the first time I did it without stopping.

Lydia it will come in time.  I use to look at the skinny girls at the gym and wonder how they did it.  I started running at a walk pace and then each week I would increase it.  I can now run at 6.0 on the threadmill. It does feel good when I run beside a skinny chick who is unable to keep up with me. Also participating in many races help to build my running confidence.  I did my first marathon in April.  I finished in 5 hours and 50 mins but hey I did it.  I can't swim but hope to start sometime this year.  I would like to do a Tri.  Good luck.

Ran 5.8 miles on the threadmill today.  I've done well since the weekend to now.  No cookies or muffin.

    Jacquie,

I did my first Tri this past April - it was hard since I am still new to this type of events.  It was a great feeling crossing the finish line.  I choice to do the Tri for the Cure which is all women event - the was the 2nd year for Arizona having the event.

I went swimming this morning at the gym.  The pool is 25 mete I was able to complete 20 laps, taking a break now and then.  It's the first time I was able to do that many laps.   Tomorrow my husband will do the spin class at the gym and afterward get on the treadmil for a short run.

Lydia, I would really love to do a Tri but I've to find the time to learn how to swim.  I did 45 min spinning and 15 min walk on incline.  I also went back to the gym at mid-day and did boxing for 30 min with a co-worker.

    Hi there!

I'm Karen. I'm 37 - 38 in a few weeks, 5' 2", and started losing wieght in March at 216.1 - BMI almost at 40. I'm now down 17-19#. (That scale is a very variable tool.) My longer term goal is to weigh 130 by next fall, short term goals are set at losing increments of 5% of original weight & result in "presents/rewards" that are not food related.

I mostly walk during my lunch at work as my home/family/work schedule does not allow for much more, but will be re-starting using my Bow-flex Revolution within the week to work on strength training.

My fitness goal is to attempt (and finish) the Danskin Sprint Tri in Massachusetts next year. I have a few obstacles first - no bike, no good experience with long term swimming, I hate running, but I am determined. I'm working on the walk/run thing now, as well as weight reduction. I have a mini fitness goal of doing a 5K later this fall.

     That's it!

    Hello Everyone!

My name is Holly and I'm 20 years old.  I'm 5'7" and weigh about 185lbs.  In the pas 4 years, I've gained about 65lbs, mostly because I was a competetive weight lifter, but because of severe injuries I had to quit.  So for the past 2 years I've found myself completely inactive and the pounds keep adding up.  I've tried to go on diets and lose weight in the past, but I always give up after a couple days.  The other day I was at the doctor and when he was filling out his notes, he called me an "obese female".  That was really the last straw.  I'm now exercising daily I have my eating under control.  I've lost some weight, but that's not my biggest concern.  Sure, it's nice to step on the scale and see the numbers go down, but I want to be HEALTHY!! I want to be the cross country MVP like I used to be.

Any support would really help since I haven't had any in the last diets that I've failed at.

  10.
    ericjacquie

    Welcome Karen and Holly,

You both seem to know what to do and you will meet your goal.  Getting involve in any form of activity is great.  I too have tried diets and failed.  I paid the fee for Weightwatchers and gained 10 lbs.  I've stopped going to the meetings and continued with my usual routine and the lbs have been coming off but slowly - as I said before I just want to be healthy and try not to pay attention to the scale and of course (ignore Au Bon Paine).  I've been doing well so far wish me luck.  I took off from work to day to study, I've an exam tomorrow. I wont be working out today, tomorrow or Sunday.  Sunday I will be volunteering at one of the races in order to qualify for 2009 NYC Marathon.  The web page training tool is a good way to track your progress daily.

    Hi everyone!

My name is Susan, and i am 40 years old. I am 5'6" and 232 lb. My turning point was my 15 yr old daughter was put on a medication and starting gianing weight. She was already a little heavy, so I am now committed to making her and myself healthier. I am frustrated though. 3 weeks in, total diet change... no caffine, now drinking lots of water, exercising 4-5 night/week and only have lost 2 pounds. I know I shouldn't focus on the pounds, but throw a dog a bone!!! I just found this website today and I do like it!

Susan you may be closing inches - ignore the scale, check your weight only once a week.  Yeah this website is good - check out other discussions you may find helpful hints.

    Jacquie,

I didn't do well on my swim this past Thursday - at least I made it to the pool.  I did have a great bike ride today even with the temp. here in AZ.  I meet with a women's group every Saturday - the new riders are up to 35 miles now.  The leader of the group and myself are designing a team cycling jersey.

That sounds great Lydia.  I did'nt run or do any activity this week.  Today, I volunteered at the Achilles Hope and Possibility 5 mile run.  Being physically challenged did not stop these people.  I was crying when I saw the kids with the mssing limbs running.  Tomorrow is my spinning class and this guy is no joke.

Did 10 mins arm exercise, 30 min thread climber and 30 mins walk/run on the threadmill.  The scale shows that I lost 3 lbs.

Hello all!  I'm 40 years old, 5' 8" and am currently 205 lbs.  February of 2007 I was at 272 lbs - Weight Watcher's was very good for me - structured plan and all that.  My primary form of exercise has been biking (commuting to and from work is a 12.6 mile round trip) but a couple of months ago I joined Snap Fitness and am working with a Fit Pro to work in other exercises.

On Sunday, I finished the Tour de Nebraska, which is a non-competitive bike ride of 300 miles over 5 days.  It was awesome!  I rode my bike up hills (yes - Nebraska has them!) I never thought I'd be able to ride up, and meeting the challenge of spending that many hours on a bike for that many consecutive days was a real boost!  The Sand Hills in Nebraska are beautiful if you can manage to get off the interstate and see the scenery.

We all need to remember that regardless of what the scale says on any given day, the activities that we do for exercise are making us healthier, which is what our primary goal really should be.  Weight loss is a by-product, but personally I just want to be a fit individual, and I'm working my way to it!

    Great discussion forum!

Welcome Pillady99.  Great that Weight Watchers worked for you.  It did'nt for me.  That bike trip sounds excellent.  Today I only did 45 min spinning.  My diet has been fairly clean since I started posting my comments.  I indulged a little this morning but not too much.

You seem to be doing well also Lydia.  Did one hour spinning at the gym this morning.  Didn't want to run two days in a row.  Turn down the air on the thermostat and closed the door and just ride to my music.  I was soaked after the hour.  No running tomorrow but hope to run my usual miles on Sunday depending on the humidity.  My next race is July 27 the NYC ING Half marathon.  Do you have any event coming up?

     Jacquie,

You are doing great yourself.  I enjoy the spin classes at the gym.  Today I didn't get to workout since I needed to get some things done around the house before going for a few hours.  After work went to the supper market by the time I got home was tried from being out in the heat.  You mentioned the NYG ING Half Marathon - do you live in New York?  I grew up in Brooklyn, New York - now I live in Arizona.  Tomorrow I plan on heading out early for an easy bike ride meet up with a friend who hasn't been riding for a few weeks and needs to take it easy.

Lydia, I'm originally from the island of Jamaica and have being living in the US for the past 13 years -  9 of those in Brooklyn off Flatbush Avenue.  I am now living in Queens, the Rockways.  I ran 10.72 miles this morning started a little later than usual. My time was not bad 2hr and 08 mins.  From Brooklyn to Arizona that's a big change. Enjoy the bike ride.

Hi, I'm a newbie, can I come in? I'm 32, 5'11'' and weigh 188lbs and would love to lose 14lbs by Christmas.  I've been following a programme in the book 'Running Made Easy' and have just completed a 'Race For Life', running 3 mins and walking 1 min in 37 minutes altogether.  Very chuffed, as I could barely walk 3 miles before without getting out of breath!!  I've signed up for another 5k in September and plan to try and run it this time.  Have found that if I haven't signed up to a race, then I make all kinds of excuses not to do it.:)

Great to see you guys doing so well with your goals.  Very inspirational:)

It's been a couple days since I last posted a message.  Saturday I had a group bike ride from my home - we did 35 miles had a total of 17 riders.  After the ride we spend time by the pool and had an early lunch.  Sunday I took a day off from working out.  Yesterday I swim a little at home and today I just got back from the gym and did 20 laps in the pool.  Thinking about going to the gym at lunch time and run on the treadmil for 30 mins.
