    Hello,

Can anyone help me with what is best to eat and drink before a solid run say 10-15-20km first thing in the morning?

I'm finding that when I get up in the morning and then go for a run drinking too much water or eating anything bloats me and I feel sick when running at about the 7-8km mark easpecially on hard hills.

I heard a drink an hour before of water and maybe a piece of jam toast?

So far i feel best when I dont have anything and run on empty.

     Anyone got advice?

     Thanks,

     Harro

    Harro,

When you get up in the morning, you haven't eaten in many hours, probably not since dinner maybe 12hrs earlier, as a result, your body is low on reserves. While this is a great time of day for cardio activities to lose fat, as with no glucose reserves, you burn fat sooner, but for running....not so much. One thing I used to do was wheat toast and peanut butter for some slow burning carbs, and then suck down an Accel gel pack.

The gel pack gives you the boost you need initially and over the next 20mins + some protein.....while the wheat toast/peanut butter will fill the hole in your gut, not slosh around, and give you slow burn carbs and protein for later in the run.

Also...hydrate really well the night before and not too much before running.

    Mark,
