So far I just stick them in my pockets, littering is not an option. But that gets messy, sticky, causes stains, etc.

Anyone have any bright ideas beside bringing along an empty sandwich bag to struggle with?

I like the baggy idea-someone suggested putting in water bottle-any leftover gel would mix with water-kinda hard to open bottle when rollin' tho...

As I start dwindling my supply of gel packets, I'm going to buy a gel flask and a big bottle of the stuff. I'm tired of the single-serves (from an enviro standpoint) as well as the stickiness.

Use a gel flask, it holds about 5 gels.

I just stick them under the elastic leg band of my shorts.  It makes your quad a little sticky, but I usually need a shower afterward anyways.  Plus you don't have to fight with it when you reach into your pocket for another one.  I've never had it stain my black shorts either, of course, I'm not sure I would know if it did.

I bought a gel flask....and switched to a mix of honey and blackstrap molasses with a tiny bit of salt. Tastes great, same energy load and costs pennies on the dollar.

I stick em under the elastic on my shorts or use a flask...just depends on long I'll be in the saddle. The flask isn't very effective for rides under 2 hours. Anything over that and it's a savior! As Roadie12 pointed out, under the shorts does get a little sticky but it washes away in the shower. It's not nearly as messy as wrestling the package into a rear pocket, though.

Discard sticky empty gel in a sandwich bag as a garage bag. I also discard a banana skin in it too.

put a strip of electrical tape around your top tube before your ride.  When you are done with a gel unwrap one end of the tape and tuck the gel packet under, then rewrap.  Simple enough to do one handed

A strip of electrical tape should retain it's stickiness for a few rides.

Use a Gel-bot and don't worry about littering or sticky pockets.  http://www.gel-bot.com

I dont find I have any problems just putting the empties into the back pocket of my jersey, butIi make sure I get all the gel out of the packet and from around the top before I put it back in my pocket.

Good on you for not littering though, too many people would simply toss it to the side of the road :(

I do like the look of that Gel Bot though!
