    Hi--

A common enough problem, but mine seems to resist easy fixes.  I get numbness in my right hand, sparing the pinky, when riding on my aerobars on my Tri bike.  It was professionally fit (by Ian at FitWerx) and I do use gloves when training but not racing.  I  had nerve conduction studies that indicated only mild carpal tunnel syndrome, even had iontophoresis treatments a few months ago.  I never have symptoms at night with numbness or tingling.  The only other activity that triggers the numbness so readily is kayak or canoe paddling.  I do stretches, I take care to keep hands loose and relaxed, change positions as often as I can, all to no avail.  I have seen a PT and my buddy and fellow triatrhlete and primary care doc is a Sports Medicine physician.  My main question is where do I go from here for further assessment?  Looking around this forum, there seems to be some fair expertise and experience.  In particular, I saw some good insight from Drchele. (Are you out there?!)

I don't know what your PT or docs are telling you. Having some good gloves with good padding as a road cyclist has been really important. Thin stylish gloves suck!

I was reading through a Specialized 2008 catelog and they talk about how their gloves have some "better padding" where the you mention your issue. My current pair are some Pearl Izumi gloves.

From what I understand carpal tunnel can be brought on by having your thumb and fingers in an opposing position like a regular grip on a bike handle or paddle. so try to keep your thumb and fingers on the same side of the bike handle as much as you can on your right hand. Connie
