I suffer from nosebleeds all the time. I've always chalked it up to running. I breathe in from my nose and out through my mouth. Today though, I got another nosebleed, and a friends suggested to me breathing in from both my mouth and my nose at the same time. Any comments on the effectiveness of this? I'm running a half marathon tomorow so any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Justin

I always breathe in and out through my mouth. I really can't get enough oxygen in through my nose.

Im an ENT specialist, and nose bleeds can occur for several reasons. Most commonly, a devaited septum ( crooked nose),allergies,or just your vessels being close to the membranes of your septum. There are other reasons, but these are the main reasons if it occurs mainly with activity or air drying the membranes. Obviuosly, running and increasing the air intake through the nose will increase the likelihood that bleeding will occur in someone like yourself.  Try keeping the membranse moist. Vaseline works well. To stop your bleeds, keep your head level, pinch the soft part of yor nose on both sides for 5 minutes continiuosly and apply cool compresses to the back of your neck and forehead. Also drug stores carry products for nose bleeders. I would have one of these on hand. Nose bleeds can become an emergency. You may want to see your FP for blood work and an ENT if needed.Hope this helps. rob
