    Hi,

I'm new to running as a hobby.  Played soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey all through high school.  Anyways, I've found when I run that my lips get numb and sometimes my right clavicle hurts (not so much my shoulder but right on that bone)  Didn't know if anyone has heard of such things.  They aren't things that are going to stop me from running but they are annoying.  I was just curious if anyone else has experienced either one of these occurrences.

    Thanks

I read the wikipedia article on side stiches the other day, and it said some people experience them as referred pain in the tips of their shoulders.  That might be it?

Numb lips could be a number of funky things, some bad news.  While I'm normally irresponsible about the whole "consult a physician before beginning any exercise program" thing, I think you should check with a doctor on this one.

I am a dedicated cross-country runner and it seems that occaisonally, if I am not running with the right form, my shoulder will hurt as you described. I have never had numb lips but I have talked to other cross country friends who have experianced the same thing. Not sure what causes it but just letting you know you're not alone!

I know that hyperventiliating (or overbreathing) can provoke pins and needles and, at the extreme, numb lips, fingertips and toes. However at that level of over breathing it would probably make you feel quite light headed and unwell too. If other are getting it too then it doesn't sound as scary though!

I get the pain in my right clavicle sometimes....I just run through it, it eventually goes away but is pretty annoying
