    Hey folks,

I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice / recommendations on IT band stretches. I've been taught the crossed feet bend at the waist method but haven't felt a thing doing it, ever! Do I have very good it bands or am I not doing it properly? Can anyone suggest a deeper stretching technique

    Cheers

LexB - one of the contributing factors to the knee problems I have is a tight ITB (per my PT this spring. She had me doing a stretch where you cross your feet put a hand on a wall for balance and lean your hip towards the side of the back foot stretching the ITB on that side. I really couldn't feel any stretch with that, but did it 3 times a day for a minute per side each time and over the 3 week course of my therapy the PT told me that she was seeing inprovement in the range of motion. She was checking the range of motion with each visit, so I've got to believe it did something, even if I couldn't tell the difference.

I know one called the figure 4.  You lay on your back, bend one knee with the foot planted on the floor.  Bring your opposite foot and place  your ankle on the bent knee.  Then push that knee away from your body while holding your foot steady.  I know, very hard to explain, but it works wonders.  Try doing an internet search for that stretch and maybe you can find a picture of it.
