I have been working on a better diet and exercise program for almost 3 weeks.I found my hardest thing to give up was pop I was a mountain dew fan and 3 large pops a day was the normal along with my fast food meal.
In order to get away from the pop I looked for alternatives and some guys at work introduced me to powderdrink packets. These are the packets you add to your 20 oz water bottle and shake for an intsant flavored drink.
So far I have tried the following packets and wonder what you guys think about using them to cut calories and still have flavor.

My question is are they as good for you as advertised? I have been drinking a mixture of these different packs about 2 or 3 of them a day. My wife thinks they are better then pop but has anybody hear any side effects or other studies on these drink mixes?
If 'Pop' is your thing, why not simply switch to Diet Coke etc.?
As for the powder mixes, some can be very beneficial if used in conjunction with your training- some , like those you describe, are good for giving instant energy prior to a run, and others are designed to re-hydrate and assist with healing muscle damage after a run.
If you consult your local fitness suppliments shop/store, they will advise what you need and when. As far as I know, the only side effects are as per any other item of food or drink you consume; if it's calorie laden and you don't burn it off, you'll put weight on.
Do whatever it takes to get off sugared soda. Trotters is right, aspartame is harmful in huge doses, but even water is harmful if over-abused. The harm of drinking all that sugar far outweighs any possible side effects of Aspartame poisoning. I too was a soda addict. I drank up to two Super Gulps (64 oz.) a day from 7-11 at one point, and was particularly fond of Mt. Dew myself. As painful as it seemed, I made the switch to Diet Dew. After much consistency, I've finally broken my sugar habit, and it's helped me shed pounds as a result.
There are a lot of different sugar-free soft drinks out there, many with added vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, etc. These are all good. I switch things up all the time, trying to find what I like for whatever mood I'm in. As long as I'm subbing these items in instead of sugary soft drinks, it's all good. I love the Tropicana sugar-free fruit punch in particular. It has 100% of my daily vitamin C, and it tastes great without the guilt (I sound like a commercial). Green teas are awesome as they are loaded with antioxidants, and there are sugar-free varieties.
Find something you like and stick with it instead of Mt. Dew or any other "unleaded" sugary soft drinks. You'll literally cut hundreds of calories out of your daily intake, and they do add up over time.
These powder drinks don't have the aspartame/sucralose so I guess I am ok. I would love to find a study or story on these drinks.
Try Effer-C powder. It is all natural, packed with vit, nut, and anti-ox. There sweetener is low-procesed cane sugar in a moderate amount to knock down the acids of the vitamins. I am not a fan of most processed foods and sweeteners (corn and sugarbeet based), I do feel that since a number of diabetics are not effected by raw to moderate-low processed cane and maple sugars, that there must be something there. I have had the orange and the rasberry flavor, there is a cranberry as well, but my cooperative does not stock that flavor.
Great for imunity support, esspecially if you are like me and over train, under rest, and are over worked and over stressed.
A good thing about the Effer-C is that it is not owned by those huge multi-nationals that pimp the highly processed crap that is the foundation of the obesity problem in our country. (my soapbox)
