Return to:  Virtual Tour Group     Return to:  Group Forum Discussion

So after a bit of a hiatus we ought to talk about a new look for 2009. Afterall by the looks of things you hardworking folks deserve some new pimped out graphics, am I right? And when I say revamp I mean REVAMP. That silly old thumb drive never showed up so all of my prior work is gone. Of course I could redo it but who wants a Gremlin when you can have a GTS. Right?

So what would you like to see? A new group graphic? New siganature? Global map? Avatars?

What I really want to hear is what inspires you? Is it Low-Rider magazine girls or is it Nike style? Who are the heros of your sport that get you pumped up and ready churn out a burner at 5 am? What gear are you going to reward yourself with?

    Tell me...

    Floridan,

Glad to see you back! I'd like to see a cool new global map and maybe some avatars.

Personally, I am motivated by trying to reach a certain point on the map by a certain date (not to mention being extremely competitive and wanting to beat last month's miles). I am also motivated by trying to catch Steve in is mileage:-)

I've asked Santa for a new bike na dwe'll see what happens. Perhaps I'll start "tweaking" it as a reward as I hit big milestones (1000 miles).

Yes I think that a global map is definitely in order. Afterall that is what inspired me to start the group in the first place.

Avatars are a sinch especially when I know what you like.

I really did like the whole global map deal we had. Pretty fun to see!

If signatures we're easier, through the site, those would be pretty cool too!

Either way, just something on the front page that says LostSheep Wins, would make me feel a little better. Instead I'm stuck looking at the back of Ehirning. I'm chasing him, just not catching him. :) I'm waiting for the moment that he takes a break, then I'll pass him.

And Steve, well Steve is cheating ;) He should be required to pedal backwards! (this is all in good fun by the way)

Floridan, good to see you back. We're looking forward to having you back around here!

I vote for the avatars as well since we all know the issue with sigs on the site.  The return of the global map would be welcomed as well as any stats.  I like the bottom here where it says how much gas we saved and the like.

As for what inspires me to get out of bed on those cold sub-freezing mornings...well I doubt Pre would let that bother him.

Floridan, what can we do to invite MMF members to join our group?  The new year provides a great opportunity to add newbies tracking their miles afresh in 2009.

Graphics wise, I'll use whatever the group starts using - sigs, whatever. I think we all stopped using them when they got out of date.

Since we are a diverse group of runners and bikers (and some doing both, right?), I wonder how we could differentiate running miles from cycling miles.  I don't think we should try to equate the two (though I think a marathon and a century are roughly equivalent distances for the two sports), because that ends up changing someone's real mileage. If the main page for the group is going to start showing more real-time results, have separate categories for cycling miles, running miles, and combined miles.  Something like that.

    I'll keep thinking.

Well, I should have done a little more research before asking some of those questions. Here are some answers:

Promoting the group: On the group's home page, the right-most button says "promote" which takes me here.

Challenges: On the "My Training" page, look at the links across the top of the page - there is one called Rivals/Leaderboards.  Looks like a great place for a group to challenge each other.  Could set up separate leaderboards for running & cycling.

Speaking of finding things, I wish we had a better link to the old discussion board for this group.  The new threads running down the right side of our group home page is very difficult to keep up with. Floridan, please put this link on our home page:

Okay, I've posted enough for one day.  ;-)

    Stevecycle,

I've added you as an admin.

I've added your link to the main page as well as at the top of this thread. Any threads that I start I will put the links at the top like this. Thanks for the input!

I spent the other day trying to find the place in my profile where I uploaded my avatar. Is this now a pay feature?

jairadballerina: I couldn't agree with you more. Pre is an inspiration. I also like DK. Check out the member sigs. I got something there for you. Not my best work but it should do for now.

I tried creating a Leaderboard.  Basically I ended up with exactly the same thing as you get here (the "training" button at the top of our group's home page).
