Hi
I've been waiting patiently since November for someone else to join the GWTA group here. I know that there are others that have registered for quite some time, but none had joined in here. I'd even posted on the Eastern Canada regional forum of Bikeforums.net to try to drum up some activity. I got a little bit of traffic but no members here.
So, welcome all - I'm Doug (forresterace)
Hi Doug
I am Debbie Casquenette and have been signed up for a long time for this ride and I am really looking forward to it. I am presently trying to talk my husband into joining me for the ride and he just might. Anyway, I am seriously thinking about getting my back out and giving it a whirl but the snow moved in again on the weekend and once again that did not happen. Were you on the ride last year?
Hi Doug,
I too am registered. I went last year, for the first annual. It was an awesome experience, we had great weather. I am looking forward to it again. Can't wait for the snow leave! Training has already started.

Hi Debbie,
Congratulations for signing up for the tour. It's great if you can share this with your husband. What I did was bring my partner as a support vehical. It gives you more freedom. There are support vehicals in the tour, and they are great, but if you wish to do something different, you can.
As I said to Doug, I was on last year's tour. I can't recommend it enough.
Hi Debbie and Sue
It certainly is nice to see some other people on this board - it can only get better. I wasn't on last years ride, last season was my first year back riding a bike in any serious manner. My brother, who rides out of the Niagara Freewheelers club, volunteered for a day at the start of last years event. He was so enamoured with what he saw that when he told me about it, he said that he was going to ride it this year. It didn't take me long to decide to do the same.
I have been busy planning my equipment and arrangements, the anticipation is half the fun. My Spring training schedule is all worked out and up on the wall. Next week is March and I definitely am going to back out riding in March. 2 degrees in the Spring feels much warmer than 2 degrees in November! (funny how that works). Last week I took the trainer tire off the bike (not that I rode the trainer much over the winter) so I'll be ready to go.
One of my main hopes for this forum is to have a discussion with others about everyones thoughts and arrangments to get home from Riviere Beaudette. I will probably start a new thread when there are more members on here. Anyway, good to talk to you both and I, also, can't wait for July. However, I've got to pedal a lot of kilometers between now and then.
Doug
I was part of last years ride and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I was full of gratitude and appreciation throughout the entire trek.
Last year I was much more on top of the training. This year because of night school I'm starting my training tonight, April 23. It's a very late start but time hasn't been on my side the last few months.
I am excited however, like Doug has mentioned the planning helps build anticipation which I am feeling now. I am absolutely looking forward to it!
I'm Antonio.
Cheers!
Hi Everybody. It's good to see the conversation get going. I did the ride last year and am signed up again for 2009.
It is truly an amazing experience. The ride is extremely well organized and the people are great. Don't worry if you're signing up solo -- last year 40% of the riders signed up solo, but you wouldn't have known it. I was one of the solos and had a great time meeting lots of people.
I just started training this month (April) once the snow was gone. I hope we have weather like we had last year, but I won't count on it. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Linda (lindajoan)
Hi Mike - glad to see you made it here (Mike and I have talked before on Bikeforums.net.
I started training in March, but the weather wasn't very good and I got very tired of dressing in multiple layers to keep warm. I went out yesterday in shorts and a short-sleeved jersey - it was glorious! Training is going well, if slightly behind the schedule that I set for myself. I'm knocking on the door of 500 km so far and I try to do lots of hills as well. My ride yesterday was probably the toughest ride I've ever done. It was only 50 km (lots of hills) but all the way home I was bucking cross and headwinds gusting to 45 kph. It's really weird to be going along at 15-20 kph and be almost stopped by the wind.
On the subject of getting back after the event, I've come to the conclusion that the Viarail train from Cornwall to Union Station Toronto on the Sunday will probably be my method. I'm still unsure where I'll stay overnight in Cornwall on Saturday night and then get to the train station on Sunday morning. Anyway I'm sure it'll all get worked out in the months ahead. Note to myself - it's only two months away now!
Anyway, it's great to see you all here - and will be even greater to meet you all in July. Doug Forrester - Richmond Hill, Ontario
2 months to go now!
...and the excitement builds. :)
Hey Mike
I just booked a room for the Saturday night at the First Canada Inn, as well. I will probably book the Via train ticket later today too. My wife is going to pick me up at Union Station.
