We have pushed an update to the mapping tool that solved a lot of the issues reported in previous versions. Let us know what you think...
If you are having specific issue, please also add your browser and browser version. (i.e, IE6, FF3, Safari 2.0) Also, please paste a copy of the link to the mapping tool you are using. Many of these issues relate to Version 3.0 which is why we have a newer version 3.1! '
Cheers,

I just tried the Feb 19 upgrade. That @#$^&* ad is still there blocking everything. You can move it, but follows the mouse pointer, staying under the mouse pointer at all times, and you can't move it out of the way and have it stay away.
If you want to make the site unusable for all but premium members, you're doing a great job. I'd rather you just discontinued the free memberships than annoy me this way.
Hi kevin,
Thanks for the new mappingtool. It looks more smoother than the older one.
However i experience one major issue with the tool. It doesn't recognize the garmin conector plugin. So i can't import my routes. I 've already downloaded the plugin again. (i'm using firefox as browser)
Morning:
Like everyone else, I have good days with the new version and bad days but it is all workable and nothing that a little patience cannot overcome. Better with it than without it.
What I have noticed though is that the "Remember me" feature when logging in seems to have ceased working since the upgrade - again not a problem as it takes all of 3 secs to log in but just wanted to let you know in case it is something that got overlooked.
Hello,
I have the same problem as dirk_z20, the new mapping tool does not recognise the garmin connector plugin. I am using IE7 and have also tried Firefox.
I download my training from a Garmin Forerunner 305.
When I revert to the old mapping tool the garmin connector plugin works on both IE7 and Firefox. I did not have to re install anything for it to work. Although the old tool works, it only ever downloads 100% of the routes 50% of the time, I quite often have to ask it to "Get Data" again.
I liked the ability to save direct to my Training but was always disappointed that my Heart Rate and other information was not automatically collected.
About that ad: with Ffox 3 and Windows XP, I can move the ad out of the way and it will stay. Same Ffox under Linux, the ad won't stay out of the way, but rather remains glued to the mouse pointer.
I've run into a problem with saving a copy of a route. The notes/cue sheet was not copied. I'm using IE7 and the latest mapping tool. Here is the source route: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/tx/georgetown/417630680
Here is the saved copy:http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/tx/georgetown/380439464900
I'm a new user to the site, so have only used the "new" tool. Any idea when the it will allow me to upload from my Garmin Forerunner 405? Looking through other discussion threads, it seems like other Garmin devices will upload, but not mine.
Thanks.
Hi all-
We just pushed an update, and the issue with Garmin import should be addressed. Please let us know how it works for you!

Also note that in this release, we've listed to feedback about the size of the ad on top of the map, and you'll now see that it shrinks after 15 seconds. I know you all realize we need to have ads to pay the bills here, and we're trying to make the best compromises to provide the best product possible. Please let us know what you think!

Hooray! All my runs on my new garmin uploaded, I think from Garmin Training Centre, as they weren't saved on my device. Good stuff.
The new release looks good, better than the beta version. Thanks a lot.
Hey I am a paying member. Why do I have to contend with ADS at top of screen still? I want more room on screen for seeing the map.
I'm about to give up on trying to use these sites. I'm using Firefox 3.0.6 with the new mapping tool and cannot get the map to load. It freezes up after downloading the ads. Earlier, I was able to map a ride, but couldn't save it. Tried all the suggested fixes to the browser - even tried using Explorer 7.0 - nada. I've been at this off and on for about two months and I'm pretty patient, but now I'm at wits end. Here is the url for the mapping tool I've been trying to use.

I tried the old mapping tool and could load it, but not save the map.

Thank you for being a premium member!
Are you seeing the ad that says "this ad will shrink in 15 seconds?". If so, you should not see that ad while logged in. Even though you are a premium member, it is possible to not be logged in. On the ad, you should see a "log in" link there. If you log in, the ad should disapear.

Based on the symptoms you are describing, I would suspect interference from 3rd party security software. Sometimes these types of software can impair some of the advanced functionality of sites like ours. Are you using a 3rd party security software package?
Kevin,
I am a much happier camper now. First, thanks for your rapid response. I disabled the CA Security Center and used the Windows security and now everything seems to work ok. I plotted and saved a route and started a training log.
I just would like to say that this new mapping tool's interface and operations are very nice, I like it alot. Keep it up.
- A Happy Runner.
Just entered a new run and it was a dream! I love the way you can bend the lines to fit your route - much better, especially for someone who runs along a twisty river path!
Also, I like the way you can edit routes and remove points, this was always a frustration when trying to shorten/legthen an existing run using the old tool.
Thanks again
Rich
can't find hybrid mapping tool that was available in old version; my run would start on a bike/run trail, go onto a sidewalk and finish on the same bike/run trail; does a hybrid map exist in new version?

The map type select is in two places now: on the map view, to the right of the "jump to" box, and in settings. If you change your map setting while logged in via settings panel, this will set the default map preference in your user profile.
Enjoy,
jeff

Thank you for the feedback about calorie calculations- we'll have someone look at this today.
thanks,
jeff
hi phreaky-
Thank you for the feedback. We are aware of the 'mouse hand' issue, but unforutunately this is due to a particular bug in the Google Map API. We have alerted google to this issue, and are awaiting a fix on their end.

Trying to create a new map. I've tried the new tool with FF3.0.6 on both W2K and XP Home SP3 and neither display the map. I get the page banner and menu and the page footer but the whole mapping area is blank. The URL that it takes me to is:
http://www.mapmyrun.com/create_new
There are no problems when using the old mapping tool.
Just a couple 'nice to fix'es...I'm using IE, probably the most recent version.
Anyway, in the field where you can put your destination, neither double-clicking nor clicking and dragging allow you to highlight an already-entered destination. The only way to delete seems to be putting your cursor at the end of the destination and hitting backspace.
Also, it would be nice if in the elevation display you could hover over a section of the diagram and get the incline percent. It can be difficult trying to match the color in the display with the legend at the top when they aren't right on top of each other.
Thanks,
Adam
The new mapping tool is great! Much larger area makes it easier to see where you're going when plotting your course.
However after saving it to my training log, the calculated average speed seems haywire - I walked/ran 7km in 48 minutes (recovering form an injury) - an avg of 0.16km/hr according to the calculator. I don't think so! If it's right, I will have to join the local snail population on one of their runs...
If you are experiencing this problem, can you please post the specifics of your workout? I've been unable to replicate this problem, however if I do mistakenly put in the MM:SS as HH:MM then I see the numbers.
ie, 1.5 miles at 18mins is 180kcal -- however, 1.5 miles at 18hrs is 4500kcal.
Thank you!
-Kevin
Just a quick note...when I initially signed on the map would not allow me to zoom in. Minor problem, but perhaps fixable. I love the follow the roads feature. It saves me from clicking a million times (a bit exaggerated). One other prob is that after reviewing the map and just scrolling around the screen, the map wanted to add more to my route (even though I hadn't clicked on a street and was clicking on green land).
Thanks, Anita
PS. No response is necessary.
Used the new mapping tool (Mar 2?) today. It's fine, but there are a couple bugs that are pretty darn annoying:
1) Using the hand to place markers is not very precise so my marker doesn't end up exactly where I want it. I miss the little cross.
2) The zoom in tool on the left was grayed out so I couldn't zoom in to try to correct problem #1. When I hovered over it and tried to click to zoom, nothing happened.
3) The delay with those new little boxes is really bizarre. I don't see how that's an improvement to have to wait for boxes to appear and flash to show me the points I've entered.
This is the worst "improvement" I have ever seen. I am sorry I have nothing more positive to say. If the free membership is supposed to encourage people to buy the premium service I am sorry to say that you will not be attracting may new users. The advert is in completely the wrong place and covers most of the tiny amount for screen that the map can be viewed in. This makes it almost impossible to "map my run" which if I am not mistaken was what the site was designed to do. Sorry again for being negative.
