Hey All, I'm really new to running but I'm currently on track to run a 5k and 10k within the next month and a half. My ultimate goal is to complete one of the Toronto marathons this fall, but I'm not sure which I should go for. I've heard that the waterfront race is fast and flat, but the date of the Toronto marathon in October is more appealing. I'm just wanting to finish upright this first time around and would appreciate any advice on which race would be the better experience for a total newbie. Many Thanks!

I'm wondering exactly the same thing! My goal is just a half-marathon and I am leaning toward the October run because of the later date. The September race is really flat, but I think the October marathon course is almost all downhill (it starts up at Mel Lastman Square - you can check out the elevation of both race courses on the respective websites). The weather might be better later in the year, too. But maybe someone who has actually run in one or both can provide some guidance. Best of luck with your training!
