I like that the there's a little soccer player whenever I have a soccer game. I agree that the ads are too big and the calendar is a wee bit to small.
Something that might be nice (for me) is that when there's a repeated workout and you're asked if you completed it, that there's a little button to push right there on the calendar or pop-up...rather than having to "edit the work out."
I agree with the suggestion that once you log a workout, you should be automatically redirected to your training calendar. Not once have I ever used the screen that does come up to edit or view my workout once logged ...I always have to click back to my calendar, which isn't the end of the world, but it can be tedious is logging several activities.
another comment about the icons...I liked the distinct color variations with the old ones. It was nice to be able to just glance at the calendar and get an idea or how varied my workouts have been...with these new ones the black activity guy and the navy blue runner are difficult for me to distinguish between without a closer look. If you are working on new icons, my suggestion is distinct color variance and more activity-specific icons where feasible. I'd love to see a surfer :)
thanks for asking us how we like it...I love the site, and it's nice to be heard
I agree with alot of the comments that the calender could be a little bigger - but mainly I don't like how it always thinks it is yesterday here (new zealand). I believe the location is specified in the user profiles, so could this be used to determine current date/time?
One other thought (unrelated) - in the "search/list workouts" function, maybe add the ability to search by route, and include time (and maybe kcal) to compare workouts, to see improvements over time?
Cheers!
Looks great to me. It is much clearer and easy to read. Ads on the sides bug me, but a necessary thing these days. Thanks so much for doing this.
Agree with others that a larger calendar would be nice. There is a disproportional amount of page space given to the banner/applications area to the right of the calendar. As a paying/premium member, I would prefer to see smaller ads at the top or bottom of a larger calendar.
The old activity icons had more eye-appeal.

kevin@mmf:We're testing out a new type of layout for our site. Leave comments, questions, or suggestions below.
I didn't read through the 100+ comments so someone else may have said this but I'll put in my vote for:
Either remember the last entry or allow setting a default for General Workout Type and Activity Detail. I nearly always enter the same things there and it would be convenient if they were already in place rather than having to pull down a menu.
Since it already calculates calories, why not also add average speed (and calculate it) to that page? All the information is there.
Hi
I like the overall look of the new page, but perhaps the ability to minimise "tabs" of areas of the page (e.g. iPhone/Applications, featured plan, etc) to free up space and reduce distraction from the main feature.
Well, I like it.
I think it could appear some displays about last month to compare each other.
As I agree with the others regarding the size of the calendar and amount of real estate given to the applications, a click button to make the calendar bigger for the log-in session would be great. It would be the MMR version of Hulu's long advert at the beginning of a programme to avoid commercial breaks midway.
It would be great if MMR could have the weather, pollen, and air quality forcast for those of us who need to plan runs around tornados and high ozone days (hopefully, those days aren't two in the same).
Thanks for the great site!
Okay, you asked for it! :)
I really like the portal idea you've got going.
#1 Request - I like the functionality provided by the Training Log Actions box on the left. However I ***REALLY*** want a link to import a map/workout from my Garmin device. 99% of my runs are recorded this way.
Generally, I like the look. The left-hand column and center column are very clean. However, the calendar needs to be bigger. The majority of my time spent at MMR is focused on the calendar. I want it front and center...and BIG. Also, I'd prefer the Training Summary at the bottom of the calendar, not the top.
The right-hand column is too big, too cluttered, too busy. Make it narrower, collapse the Integrated Applications pick list into expandable categories to clean up the look, and I think you've got a winner.
I like the idea behind the Featured Training Plan box on the right. I've wanted several times to utilize your training plan functionality. However...I don't want to pick one of a small handful of somebody else's training plans. I want to create my own, based on my own goals and the realities of my own training schedule. Give me the ability to do that, and the "My Training Plan" box on becomes a HUGE plus as part of my portal page.
Then once that is in place, expose the fabulous new "My Training Plan" box in the Facebook application too.
I love the added activity icons. When I record a basketball activity it's nice to see that reflected in the icon. A little thing, but satisfying to my soul. ;)
Oh, and on the left-hand side...can we ditch the Sponsored Links, at least for premium members. If not by default, then an option to hide them. I hate paying for a membership and then being advertised at (although you've always done a good job of keeping the ads pretty low key). Membership should have it's privileges. ;)
And while I'm at it, I have always hated the big blue bar just under the menu at the top. It's 1 1/4 inches of completed wasted space (IMO) and means I ALWAYS have to scroll down to look at what I am really there to see. Ditch it. Move it to the bottom. Provide a way to hide it. Just help me/allow me to get it out of my face. (Dangit, I just had to scroll down to get to the Save Changes button...see what I mean?)
Although I think it goes without saying, I will say it. The key to a great portal is the ability to customize it to suit my needs, my wants, and occasionally, my whims.
I love your site. I don't often pay for an otherwise free site, that's how much I love it. I think you're on the right track, and I like what you're doing. Keep it up.
Hey, you asked.
I must say even if I'm not a huge fan of that kind of (public) site's... but like your's - it's pretty comfortable to fill a training calender here.
And that's why I must say what really disturbs me with new design - the icon of "general sports activities" - the guy playing ball? That is football, as far as i know, but certainly not general! The old icon was more logic - guy standing with arms akimbo.
Please do something about it?
And yes, calendar should be bigger.
Thank you for your effort to make site better.
I think it's not that difficult to develop a posibility to choose between icons.
In fact, by already choosing a type of sport, the most important requirement is fullfilled. What left to be done is make the questioning of showing which icon a little more complex. ( Choose between more icons. As much as there are types of sports )
Maybe a link to an image on the webserver can be adjusted in the database for every workout, depending on the type of sport. Or, even better, create a sportstable which contains the link. When displaying provide the information of the sports table to the calender.
As not being a soccer player i like to have other icons, but to me is the lack of width of the calender a bigger problem than the type of icons.
I love this site. I have 2+ years experience and it has really improved my workouts.
I agree with many of the comments here, namely:
1. The calendar is too small now. I like a little more screen real-estate devoted to what I am trying to do.
2. The iPhone stuff is too large and should be able to minimize back on a click. I don't even own an iphone.
3. Upon logging a workout, why I am not brought back to the calendar? The extra click seems unnecessary.
4. I *like* the new icons.
Thanks, jv
I've only played with the new layout briefly, but I definitely do not care for the new cycle icons. Too big, too red, too aggro. I liked my little green streetsign bikes-- I'm riding to cut CO2, so it added to the "green" aspect of my workouts.
I'm still very happy using this site-- printouts from it formed the bulk of an earth day display outside my high school classroom!
I'm glad to see that there is an active effort to enhance the site. Keep it up!
Below the calendar, where it lists today's workouts, there is a link to edit. When I click on this link, it brings me to enter a completely new workout, not edit the old one. (I don't know if this is because the workout I was editing was a recurring workout or not.)
I'd love to be able to go directly from the calendar to edit...currently takes an extra step. (or a way to mark a recurring activity as completed directly from the calendar.)
The ads are too big and the calendar is too small.
I think I liked the old icons better too.

Looks pretty crowded. Adding a workout using the 'quick-add-button' regularly doubles my current body weight....
I will echo the thoughts about the sidebar with all the iphone apps being too big, and the smaller calandar not really being an improvement.
I will also say that I don't think the new icons are an improvement. I miss the little green running man. He was simpler, but I liked him.
The page does not seem to load as quickly as the previous version either.
Also, I saw a comment about the where you are redirected after saving a workout. I also don't look at the page that pops up after the saving of a workout. I think it should redirect to the calendar instead.
I would like to see a save button on the second page of the logging pages.
Thanks for listening.
Calendar was great for me the first day I used it. Today, it will not load. Very frustrating. Otherwise, I like the look, but agree with everyone else on the adverts, etc...
Basically, it'd be nice to have all the TOOLs be readily available and command a lot of realestate while access to supporting apps and adverts take up a smaller amount of landscape on the page.
In general, i like it, a change for the better.
However, I don't like this new calendar. It takes too long to load and i find it irritating how the adjusted size nolonger fits the "total calorie: <number> (kcal)" on the one line. just a minor thing, but if fixed could look a lot better.
But to be honest I'm just stoked that there's a site like this where i can map and track all my workouts, great job guys :)
The loading time for the calendar is very slow - especially when you have a few to do cos you don't get around to it every day!!
I don't mind the icons - but then I quite liked the old ones too.
Overall though - whatever you guys do it is great - I love having the site to map what I am doing, be it running, walking, cycling, all of which I do. It is a real sense of achievement. The new mapping tool is GREAT!
I can't seem to get the little "Auto-calculate" button for the calorie counter to show up anymore. I updated my profile like it said and it wouldn't let me do the calorie thing.
Otherwise, the functionality seems pretty good. I like the look of the new calendar.
The popup adds and the adds at the top of the "Mapping a run" screen get in the way. When I try to move the map around, and my cursor goes off the map, it automatically clicks on the add. It is very frustrating. I think the adds should be off to the side so they won't interfere with mapping routes.
Maz :)
When I log my workouts, my gear tracker isn't working. This happened the last time the site was updated. All of my gear is showing up if I click on the "Gear" link, but when logging workouts, it doesn't give me the option to select anything; it's as though I don't have any saved gear.
Also, what happened to the "Auto Re-center Map" option?
Otherwise, everything's looking good.
Thanks!
