Most of the route is on low-traffic secondary roads, except for the northern section, with about 10 miles on major highways. View | Print | Bookmark | Write a Story | Tell-A-Friend | Send a Message |

location: Calhoun, Georgia distance: 30.77 mi. | Route Type: Bike Ride Tags: Pavement, onroad, rural, residential, scenic, low Traffic, rolling Hills, rolling To Flat created by: description: This route replaces the Darby Loop ride. This route takes you from the outskirts of Calhoun to the east, up McGill Mountain, and down into the flat valley surrounding the city. Then, you will begin to ascend the hills to the west before crossing the valley again and back into the hills to the east. Each main section of the route has some sort of climb, with McGill Mountain and Allen Hill (Boone Ford) being the most severe. You could shorten the route just a bit by continuing up Allen Hill instead of taking Allen Loop. However, Boone Ford road is pretty much suicide any time of day, especially on the Hill, where there are steep drop-offs on both sides and virtually no road-shoulders.
