Take 5 Mile Drive at your 2nd stop sign at 1.25 miles from the park entrance you'll see a locked gate (On Saturdays until Noonish). Park your car, unpack the kids and proceed past the locked gate. Bathrooms are at 1.25 miles from the locked gate. Car free section ends at about 2.4 miles from the locked gate where the road forks (stop sign on one road Ft. Nisqually on the other.) Turn around and return for the 2.4 miles back to the car (cutting off roughly a mile if you take the gravel road shortcut). If you want to cheat and find a quicker way back to your car, go left at the fork down walking your bikes down a 1 way road the .2 miles downhill back to your vehicle. If you decide to ride with traffic in the park (traffic tends to be light on weekend mornings) going right will take you to Ft. Nisqually and eventually the zoo.
