Giro d'Italia 2012 IMPROVED VERSION Stage 8 Sulmona-Fermo 202 km
The eighth stage of the Giro crosses difficult terrainin the Apennines, Italy's backbone, from Sulmona, one of Abruzzo's little "inner capitals", to the recently-made provincial capital town of Fermo, in the Marche region. No stage for sprinters, the race will provide space for long-distance breakaway attempt after the grueling mountain stage of the day before. After crossing the Gran Sasso massif at its southernomst, the route tocuhes Teramo, passes near Ascoli Piceno, then climbs up and down amidst lovely hilly scenery and little hamlts in the southern Marche. The finish line is set after a final short but steep ascent that will bar all but the most resilient and energetic from competing for today's success - a 202637.4 m activity route in Sulmona, Italy
