Description
Starting in Griffith Park, the first big climb comes going over Garbage Truck Hill. But the reward is being level with the "Hollywood" sign only several hilltops away. (At the end of Mt. Hollywood Dr, there the chance to skirt over to the Griffith Observatory, but this is not noted on the ride.)

Leaving Griffith Park, you turn onto Hollywood Blvd and look at the hundreds of stars as you ride along. Beware of the tourists!

Nichols Canyon is a long, steady climb up into a rustic residential area where we all wish we could have a house.

Nichols Canyon joins up with Mulholland Drive, of David Lynch fame. If you are lucky and it's a very clear day, the ride snakes only the top of Los Angeles, offering breath-taking views of Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the Valley.

Sepulveda Blvd is a quick drop back down into Santa Monica. San Vincente takes you out to the world famous cliff of Santa Monica which look out over the Pacific Ocean.

Eventually, you must turn your back on all that beauty and return. The ride back is mostly flat for about 15 miles, using a mix of residential and major streets to take the ride back home to Griffith park

The hard work of this ride is all in the first half - by mile 35, there are no more serious climbs. And those climbs are rewarded by scenic beauty the way LA does it.
