Castle Rock and Palmer Lake Loop
Traveling counter-clockwise, this route begins with nice climb and descent to Perry Park Road on Wolfensberger Road. Most of the route winds through buttes covered with scrub oak and open space. Pretty empty country. I saw buffalo, alpacas, deer, lots of horses, hawks, and bluebirds, and three herons take off out of a small pond just east of Greenland.\nPerry Park road generally gains elevation while traveling south, but there are plenty of short downhills too. Palmer Lake is about the midpoint of the loop and is the high point. Spruce Mountain road is the last of the pavement until you reach Lake Gulch road near CO-83. Most of the dirt I rode on was well packed and smooth, but there was some loose gravel.\nAfter Greenland, there aren\'t many trees or scrubs for about 10 miles. Lake Gulch road features several small, scrub-covered hills. - a 53.9 mi cycling route in Castle Rock, Colorado
