The first 32 miles (Gloucester-Rockport loop) can be a little treacherous during the tourist season with a high traffic volume on relatively narrow roads. There is an open-grate bridge on MA-127 in Gloucester you will need to walk across, as well as the US-1/US-1A bridge in Newburyport.
