This route begins at the OLD Chabot Space and Science center at Mountain Blvd & McDonell Ave.

Head up McDonnell to the old lime quarry and the trailhead. Follow the trail to the overflow parking area at Merritt College, for a great view of Oakland and the bay. This trail is all uphill, but mostly a gradual grade with a short, steep section in the middle, and a steep grind at the end.

Bonus: Find the overgrown Nike missle site about 1/2 way up.

Proceed as the route indicates to the backside of Merritt College to the Leona Canyon Regional Open Space Preserve.

Follow Leona Trail 0.6 miles down to Artemisia Trail. Artemisia is 0.7 miles that doesn't let up, averaging a leg burning 15% to 20% grade for 1/2 mile.

Artemisia tops out at 1000' on Lexford Place, just off of Skyline Boulevard and the fun Skyline singletrack. Go left for the fire station and various options to Redwood Regional Park, Anthony Chabot, and Bort Meadow. Go Right for the City of Oakland stables, the Chabot Equestrian Center, and various options to Anthony Chabot and Lake Chabot.
