Schuy-Rush Lake (Rushville/Beardstown), IL to St. Louis, MO
This is a pretty flat route, for the distance. Check the elevation. One pretty big climb, but over a good distance, and one big decline. A few spots with rolling hills. I am a novice long-distance biker, and loved it. There are a few places where you have no shoulder or path, and must brave it on the road. But, the majority of it was on about a foot and 1/2 shoulder that didn't have much gravel or rock in the way. After you hit Pere Marquette park, you have your own bike path! That will take you all the way into Alton. The scenery was pretty. Corn fields galore. Some woodsy patches. Afew swampy areas. The last 1/3 takes you along the Illinois River. You'll pass enough towns if you need to stop to refuel (more water/food). Watch out if you ride on Monday. A lot of establishments are closed then. Don't ask me why, they just are. One more thing, but very soon it will not matter. The bridge to cross over to Florence, at around mile 38, was closed to cars. But, they let me pass on my bike. I just had to walk it a few feet. Some boat hit it and caused minor damage. But, I heard it will be fixed by the end of June, 2009 - a 120.9 mi cycling route in Schuy-rush Lake Park, Illinois
