The ride I propose to do from my Dad's house at 10112 W 70th St in Merriam, Sunday 11/22. I'll head to his house after church, plan on riding at 1:00 unless I know of a straggler who's coming for sure. My cell is 913-271-9352 if you're coming but cutting it close. If nobody shows, I'll ride it alone, but it's always nice to have company on a ride. I'm no speed demon, I'm lucky to average 12.5-13.0 mph, but I have great taste in shirts and it's always good to know there are people along to bear witness and render aid if disaster strikes.

http://www.mapmyride.com/route/united-states/ca/los-angeles/568125883503120795

The route starts out innocently enough through Elysian Park to the L.A. River Bike path. Climbing up Mulholland from the 101 Freeway isn't as painful as it looks, but the constant ups and downs seem to be more wearing than a consistent uphill climb. When Mulholland becomes a dirt path, the gravel is very rough in spots and is probably only appropriate for bikes with mountain tires. The ride down Sepulveda is easy and safe. The ride along Sunset, especially around UCLA is exceedingly dangerous with the high number of fast moving SUVs coming around blind curves. I didn't really start to feel safe again until I passed Highland. I don't know about you, but I was in serious pain for the last 15 miles.

Once I got out of Waikiki, past H-1, and onto Highway 72, people became very intolerant of my taking up a lane, despite the numerous "Share the Road" signs in their various incarnations. I got honked at about 5 times and several cars passed way too close. Still, this is a beautiful route, with many places to stop and take in the view. Recommended!
