It was called Gainesville Bikes & Bands and the title sponsor was Hayes Automotive which happens to be a sponsor of the Habersham Flyers a local cycling team I'm proud to be a member of. For our sponsorship we received space at the start/finish line for some tents and we took full advantage of it. The team invited friends and family to join us for an evening of criterium racing. We served burgers and had a bike parts swap meet to garner attention. The racing started with Colt Newsome and Riley Mahon in the CAT 4/5 -35 race. Colt won the first prime lap and both of them showed good form. Then it was time for my race with Star Bridges our team captain. My job was to chase down all the breaks and keep the race tight for the sprint. Star got second in the race and had scored a second place in the circuit race earlier. Stephen Dean is our loan CAT3. He made a splash by not only racing in his race but also starting the PRO2/3 race. The highlight of the evening came in that very race. Our good friend Dustin Mealor who rides with us on all our training rides broke away during a prime lap and never looked back. He won the PRO1/2 race by a full lap! It was crazy in the Flyers tent. The next day, with the help of team mates Craig Tinsley, Stan White, Sal, Star Bridges, and friend Lance Carpenter I was able to take Second Place in the road race. 62 riders and I got second place by only .006 second. What a great weekend!
