- This is a demanding 1.3 mile criterium course. The race starts and finishes on N. Valley road at Live Oak Park in Manhattan Beach. Following a clockwise direction, the race begins on the flats and gradually increases to a 7% grade as you climb into a sweeping 180° Turn 1/2. Continuing on N. Ardmore, the back stretch is a series of gentle rollers. There is a slight downhill into Turns 3/4. The race is usually won in the bottom 180° turn. If you are not in the top 10 coming out of the final turn, you won't be in contention for the final 300 meter sprint to the finish line!!!

The Manhattan Beach Grand Prix is just two blocks from the beach...so let's talk about the wind! The prevailing winds come in from the Southwest. That means you can expect a head wind coming down the back stretch. It has been several years since anyone has successfully taken a flyer and stayed away from the pack. This is a course that pays premiums to team tactics.
