Starts at Rancho San Diego Shopping Center (Starbuck&#039;s, Coffee Grounds, Janet&#039;s Cafe, Bagel Towne, numerous fast food places). <br> <br> I use this ride as either a heavy workout (time trial type effort) or as a light intensity ride. <br> <br> This is short, but still manages to climb approx. 950&#039; in total, plus has extended flat portions - so put the hammer down! <br> <br> This ride starts out with a moderate climb to Jamual (650&#039; of the 950&#039; of climbing), then has a nice descent down Mexican Canyon (Jamul Dr.)! <br> <br> At the bottom of Mexican Canyon out to Steele Canyon road is flat (aprrox. 2.5 miles) - time to hammer! (solo - 21+ avg.; group - 25+ mph avg.). Depending on time of day you may be riding into a good head wind. Put the hammer down! <br> <br> At Willow Glen (off Steele Canyon Rd.) turn right - it&#039;s out to Sycuan Jct (Deshesa and Harbison Canyon roads). Take this at a moderate pace (18+ mph). To Sycuan Jct. Turn around and follow Dehesa/Willow Glen back to the start - 7+ miles (about 13 miles of basically flat roads total). <br> <br> There&#039;s typically a bit of a headwind coming back in and can be rather strong depending on time of day/season, but don&#039;t let that stop you - put the hammer down, push yourself (excellent for building power and endurance)! <br> <br> For the entire 7+ miles: <br> Solo - try maintaining a 20+ mph avg. <br> <br> Group - get the paceline going (good shoulders on Dehesa and Willow Glen roads) - maintain a 24+ mph avg. <br> <br> Makes for a great workout! <br> <br> Once back, enjoy something to drink and refuel. <br>
