Circle B Bar Preserve and Fort Fraser
- Begins in:
- Bartow, FL, United States
- Created By:
- A 23 mile trip starting at Circle Bar B Reserve, and then down and back on the Fort Fraser Trail. The Circle Bar B Reserve has sand, dirt, and gravel roads that go through lakefront, swamp, and grasslands. The numbers and varieties of birds that we saw were astounding. Florida Audubon counted 11,000 white pelicans at the site this year. We also saw flocks of roseat spoonbills, flocks of storks, eagles, falcons, and many other birds. The Fort Fraser Trail is slightly downhill from North to South. As a rail to trail, it goes through rows of mature trees, but the road noise from US 98 is a distraction. Bathrooms are at Circle Bar B, and Highland City, but not at Bartow, or at US 570. The 1.2 mile stretch of Route 540 was busy, but had a bike lane. A new bike path from the Fort Fraser Trail to Circle Bar B should be ready sometime in 2010.
