Road Bike Experts in Phoenix - Please help.

I will be relocating to the Phoenix Area and would really appreciate some help on which areas are better for road biking.

I ride around 40 miles about 3 times a week and of course I hate crossing streets. Are there any long uninterrupted trails? Should I move to the North or South part of phoenix?

Greetings! Anyone know a great paved bike trail through dupage and/or cook county. I found the salt creek trail from Brookfield to ~hinsdale. it's only 7 miles so I'm looking for something bigger. Any thoughts? Thanks, Chad

can't figure out how to map a ride using trails and not roads. Have unchecked "follow roads" and read "help" and forums. It keeps defaulting to roads or as the crow flies. Can I make the program search out trails along a route and follow them?

I've checked the help section and read through reviews, but I don't seem to find any information on this issue. I've created several cycling route maps, but they all start at my house. Now, I'd like to make some of them public... but with more generic start and end points.

When I try to edit a start point in a map I've already created, I can drag the start point icon to a new place and it sits there, but the route doesn't change at all. Even though the market is in a new place, the little blue route line still starts at the original point. Is there any way to move the start point (and end point) so that my routes start/end in a new location?

Hi everyone, I'm getting ready to ride my bike from Berkeley, CA to Medford, OR and I'm hoping someone can can help me out with the route. Is it better to stay coastal, or inland more? The goal is 6 days, doable? Any roads or small highways that are bike friendly along the way that we should look for? It looks like there is a lot of empty space along the way, we're usually staying in hotels, is that going to be a problem? Any help is appreciated. My trip is coming up! Thanks.

A group of us are thinking about doing a charity ride from John o Groats to Land's End next year.

We are just starting to think about a route and would be very interested to hear from anyone who has done it recently. What route did you take? How hard going? What are the gradients like?

We are likely to be restricted to using main roads as we are looking to do it in a little over a week so need the quickest route possible with a mileage of approx 100/day. Obviously we want to avoid the really hideous roads for traffic as that's never fun eh?!

We are going to take a support vehicle to strike camp in the morning/prepare feeds/make camp in the evening so we can concentrate on the riding and as little else as possible.

Like I say, any tips ans advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi There!

Can anyone point me towards some software / website where you can compare rides / data captured by Garmin Forerunner?

I don't always ride the same routes, but quite often use the same hills, so would be good to be able to easilly compare part of a ride to see if my hill climbing is improving.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hey there - I've found a few routes already indicated in Map My Ride but wanted to see if there were any highly recommended routes. We visit Mendo frequently but this will be our first time with road bikes (we used to bring mountain bikes but we've gone totally road now...)

I'm thinking of cycling along the main-ish roads VS and N roads for the majority of the trip.

Does anyone know how busy/safe these roads will be?

would love to see some routes from midtown (59th/7th) to Greenwich, CT. I am thinking perhaps going up Westside Hwy but unsure from there (going out of the way to hit some hills is not a problem). I know I can go through Harlem but might be too many stoplights, too flat and perhaps not the safest neighborhoods. Thanks everyone

I started road cycling in central Virginia, and came to really love hills (both up and down). Now, I live in Brooklyn, and the whole city is--relatively speaking--flat. I'm starting to fear that my legs will atrophy.

My apologies if this is the wrong category, but I couldn't find one more specific to my question, which is, does this route work? I live in San Francisco and would like to take public transit to an area in which I don't often ride. Are the hills insurmountable, asphalt unrepaired, traffic unbearable? Anybody have recommendations for water or pit stops?

North Atlanta to Clevland Tennessee

Hey everyone, i'm new to the site. I've used the map before for local rides no more than 50 miles away from home, but i've had some trouble recently. I am planning a trip from Atlanta, Georgia to Clevland Tennessee, When i try to map it, it says that my route is too large. This will be my first major trip, 200 miles or so on back roads, so i plan on breaking it up over a course of three days or maybe even four. Regardless, does anyone have any advice on how i should plan out this trip since i cannot seem to use the map on here? Any advice would be super awesome, thanks! -Chase Green

Does anyone have a safe bike route from nyc to margate,nj?? I have to go to the beach w/ the gf and family this wkend but cant miss out on my training......i'm doing louiseville, ky ironman at the end of the month and HAVE TO STICK TO MY TRAINING! please get back to me if you know a fairly safe route. thanks!

hello all: i am heading out to colorado in a few weeks and was hoping there was a way to bike from the denver airport up to frisco... i found a colorado state bike map, but it didn't seem to be very encouraging.... is it possible to ride from denver to frisco along I-70 (service roads?) or possibly 285 to fairplay and then north on 9? i'm thinking i might even want to make it a two day trip depending on the length as i know elevation will be hurting me quite a bit... thanks for any insights.

Trouble exporting routes to GPX

Hi, I'm new here and new to a Garmin 605. I've found loads of great routes in my area and what I assume are also great routes in areas I'll be visiting. But I'm having trouble getting the routes into my 605 in a usable format. I've done this successfully from Bikely, where I just download the file to GPX, copy the resulting file into the "GPX" file on my Garmin, and then it pops up under saved rides on the Garmin. But when I try to do the same thing with MMR, it creates a file with a GPX extension, but the file properties indicate its actually an XLM document. I can copy it over to the Garmin, but the Garmin won't find it. Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else had this problem? Any recommendations? Thanks, -Ray

How do I INSERT points in a map I already have?

I just recently started using mapmyrides, so I'm new here.

I have a few rides in the 'MyRides' area, but I need to make some adjustments to the start location and where the turnaround point was. How can I INSERT points to make the needed changes to the turnaround point, etc? I looked at the video in help and it shows in the dialog when you click on a point, an option for 'add pt before' and 'add pt after'...I don't see that! When I click on a pt, I have option (aside from adding notes, etc for 'Delete this Point', 'Delete All points After this Point', and 'Delete All points Before this Point'.

I know I'm going to run into this a lot as I do very similar rides, but may turn around at different points.

Any help/guidance here will be appreciated! Thanks.

Hey all,

looking to do this trip--ideally--in seven days. It's roughly 380 miles as the highway crow flies. So I figure averaging 65 miles a day should get me there on schedule. Anyone done any piece of this? I'm looking for an optimal route. Scenery is of course ideal, but the quickest way is optimal. I'm new to the touring scene, but have done much longer trips than this, yet never without a sag-wagon. So, new stuff here. Any advice, big or small is welcome.

Here's a shot in the dark question....

I will be vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland and was mapping out some cycling options. One route I was thinking of doing is Route 50 to 611 to Assateague State Park.

Can anyone tell me if both route 50 and 611 are bike friendly (wide shoulder or bike lane) or will I be asking for trouble with traffic?

Can anyone point me in the right direction on obtaining a bike legal route to Atlantic City, NJ from Pennsylvania? I have been using Google Earth to look at roads and "street view" pictures to determine it's bikability, but seem to be having some trouble.
