We're working on a new layout for the mapping tool. Please let us know what you think:

http://beta.mapmyrun.com/create_new

Note, we are also including more goodies in here:

* Saved User Preferences

* Walkng Directions (ie, Turn rules of the Road Off)

* Clearer Route Notes / Cue Sheets

* More Help

* Clickable Tags / Keywords

* More Real-estate to Map your Route

Let us know what you think -- this is still a work in progress but we're interested in hearing what you think. Please note that we're also working on a performance boost to help with those slow-down / crashes with longer routes as well as more detailed route edit functionality (delete/insert point/etc)

Cheers,

			It's currently 10:00 p.m and most people are, wisely, sleeping for tomorrow's run.

Formerly a member of coolrunning.com before they screwed up the running log and everyone left the forums, one aspect they did have that really motivated me was a daily training thread. After a few weeks, regulars began to pop up and post about their daily training. It helps motivate tremendously, because everyone wants to talk about their run and not be the person saying.. 'Oh, I sucked today and did not run."

What was also remarkable was the fact that everyone, from all ability levels, participated in the daily discussion. This is great for the new year, it begins on Tuesday. So, tomorrow, after I run.. I'll be posting in this thread a summary of the workout I did that day.

I hope someone else beats me to it and makes the first post.. it's a thread I haven't seen while on this site... Different people can start each days Training Summary Thread - basically, whoever decides to get out and run the earliest and then get back to post about it first!

I hope this idea seems good to everyone.. because it was my favorite part about coolrunning.com... and I hope it's your favorite part about mapmyrun.com

Hi All,

     I've had IT band issues this year, laid off running, found some stretches, strated again and it returned.

     So I tried using my cross-trainers instead of my runners and the problem disappeared. I went back to my runners and my ITB was in agony two miles into the run.

    Today, I tried the cross-tyrainers and had no trouble. I've been stretching a lot and resting up after any ITB flareups...the shoes seems to be the only difference.

     Are the shoes really the difference? or is it just coincidence? Have you folks heard of such a thing?

  p.s. I pronate, and haved always bought top-quality runners at The Running Room designed to help me.

Hi all!! I have been running for about a year now and the issue that I have come across lately is that about a mile into the run my shins will be on fire. I started slowing down on my runs because i realized that I was running too fast and wearing out too quickly. Not too sure if that causes the burning in the shins since my stride is shorter. I will stop and stretch and they seem to be somewhat ok for the rest of the run. I have tried exercising them at work by tracing the alphabet with my toes but doesnt seem to be helping. I dont think that i have shin splints but just weak shin muscles.

Any advice??

Any one have a remedy? I notice that it is worse on the treadmill and I typically end up having to stretch them about 4 times before i can run without stopping.

I'm looking for answers to the following questions about the "My Runs" feature of this site. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

# 1 - If I edit the name of a run, does that ruin any historical data based on the run? Forr example, if I change "daily run" to "home run", do I lose all the data that was saved from all my "daily runs"?

# 2 - What if I delete a run entirely? When I go back to look at my stats (miles per month, average distance, etc.) will I have lost all the data related to that run?

I'm trying to clean up my runs by re-naming the ones I use regularly and deleting those routes that I've only used once or twice. However, I'd rather not lose all of my data, since I've got well over a year's worth saved.

I appreciate any thoughts, help, advice, etc.

Thanks!

Just new on here. I have been desperately on the lookout for a site that accepted both Garmin and Nike+ device as my friends have both and we want to do challenges. The site looks great so far (though possibly could be simpler in places).

Anyway, my main question is, I have a lot of runs in my Garmin Training Center and on my watch, is there a way to just import them all or do I have to them one by one?

I did a little over 6 miles today in the new shoes and my right knee was bothering me a little bit afterwards. When it comes to running I don't like to take any chances on injuries. Do you think I should try the shoes out again or go back to my old style?

For some background...I have been running for years and average about 40-50 miles a week. Never had any knee problems, but used to have and still worry about stress fractures.

Good Morning to Everyone on the Board -

In a couple of weeks, I'll be spending a week in the mts at approxmiately 6500feet. During normal life at sea level, I try to run ~20 miles a week, but in some vague, abstract sort of way, I'm not sure if I'll be able to maintain this at atltitude. Any advice on how to deal with this? Is there some formula/algorithm/rule o' thumb that I can follow so I can adjust my training for higher elevations? or is it more simply a matter of gut it out the best that I can, then go back to my normal training routine when I get home?

Thankx,

TBD

I ran cross country and track in high school, but then took a couple of years off and have never been able to get back into it. I set myself a fitness challenge a few months back and figured running would have to be part of it. I have tried to run over the past few years, but often am too fatigued and experience more knee pain than I wish to. A friend of mine came to me and suggested that I try running with a very minimalist shoe known as the five fingers, since then I have been running in 5 mile stints, I even put in a 20 mile week this last week for the first time in my life. Together we started a blog at http://www.barefoot-running.com/blog and are discussing the benefits of barefoot running and how it can strengthen the human body to run better, more efficiently, and again enjoy running. I am having the time of my life out running. It is very zen for me to be running. My wife, a competitive triathlete, loves being able to run with me. It fun to have something else to do together and not have to worry about injury anymore.

			Ok I started running a couple of months ago and while I love the results I'm seeing on the scale and in muscle tone, I've been getting small pimples or a sort of rash on my rear! I can't stand it. Has anyone else dealt with this and have suggestions for how to prevent it and get rid of it? For now I try to hop in the shower as soon as I'm back from my run but other than that I'm not sure what to do. I'm just hoping my significant other prefers a fit butt with acne over a flabby one without.

			i am just curious if any experienced runners think it's possible to increase my pace by a minute per mile in 2 months?
this is my background i am 35 years old. i only started running 3 years ago, but have been active intermittently my whole life (aerobics, sometimes weights, yoga sometimes - you get the picture). i've run 2 half marathons. the first was after 3 months after i started running for the first time in my lime in my life and i finished at an 11:19 pace. the second was over 2 years later (december 2008) and i finished at a 9:51 pace. i am doing a half again in december and i'd like to finish in 2 hours, which is a 9:23 pace (right?). this is my question. due to a divorce a few months ago and the impending divorce the months before that, i pretty much stopped running shortly after the half in december. i've just started again and my pace for my last run was 10:42. does anyone have any suggestions for speeding up in a couple of months?
thanks so much!

			Hello All! I will be running my first half marathon this weekend and am very anxious about what to wear. The run begins at 8:00 a.m. and the high for the day is 51 degrees with an overnight low the previous night of 40 degrees. I don't want to over-dress but am worried about being too cold. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! :)

OK not really a running question but it's messing with my training and I see a lot of experience on here.

I broke my hook of hammate (palm) during a mtn biking "incident" about 2 months ago. Went to the Ortho and he tried meds first to ease pain and irritation. Has not worked and I am looking at surgery.

I was wondering if anyone here has had it done before and if so how long was the recovery period?
