GPS Elevation Data Error - will it be fixed?

MMR TDF Challenge Staff:

It has been stated that there is a flaw in your interpretation of GPS elevation data. This appears to specifically effect short steep climbs.

This significantly effects those of us who live in locations that only provide short climbs that we must repeat to gain any ascent credit.

1. Are you going to correct this error, so that our ascents are correct?

2. Are you going to correct this error and reevaluate previous stages that have been effected by the error?

Regards.

In the last 2 days, the site has changed its support for import of ride data from Garmin devices. I now find that I'm unable to upload directly from my Garmin at all.

In using the method I've been using for the last 2 weeks, there's a message now that says that Garmin imports are now being worked on, and use a different method. The link takes you to a different page, and the Garmin Communicator Plug-in finds my device with no issues. The site reports that it has found my device and data. However, the "data" field is blank, the progress bar is 100%, and there is no way to upload my data using it.

Looks like the only option is now to upload using a file you've created from the Garmin. However, these are not easy to produce from track logs, as Garmin makes it very difficult to create these files. In fact, the latest version of their MapSource program crashes if you attempt to save track data as a GPX.

So this sudden change, right at the end of the virtual Tour de France, has blown me out of the water. I'm going to be spending extra time this afternoon trying to find a way around this mess just to upload my data to the site.

My main point: Never, NEVER make any major changes in how an application works during a period of heavy use by users, such as the virtual Tour de France! It will bite you every time.

Certainly we've all worked extremely hard to cover lots of miles over the past three weeks, but who sustained the most bee/wasp stings and flat tires?

Personally, three stings from the same wasp down my jersey on the last day. And one flat time sometime during week one.

I am appalled at the TDF Challenge principals' lax oversight of riders doping habits. NO random urines have been collected on ANY virtual challenge participant. How likely is it that riders such as "epoismypal" and "madridmedicine" are competing clean?

Yesterday, while riding fueled by nothing more potent than espresso and granola bars, I fumed over the futility of ever catching up with such pharmakocyclistas. Shame on the TDF challenge team for allowing this drug crazed field to compete under the name of fair sport.

East cost riders don't have this problem, but for us out west... if we ride until it gets dark in order to get in as many miles as possible, we are penalized by not having time to get to a computer to upload our effort. I missed uploading an massive effort over 4.5 hours because I could not get my computer booted up until 9:02pm PST. Please consider leveling the playing field with respect to time zones prior to the next challenge. :-|

I've noticed that there seems to be something quirky with personal site stats when it comes to rest days for the Tour.

For example, I've uploaded 16 rides so far, and early each day in time to be counted. Yet my stats say I've only uploaded 14 rides. I noticed the discrepancy occurs immediately after Tour rest days.

Also, after completing today's ride (Tuesday), I logged on and the site reported "congrats for submitting your ride for today's stage, Monday, July 20th". Strange, usually I get a "you haven't submitted a ride today" message first. I uploaded my trip today anyway, but it didn't change a thing... it still thinks it's Monday, July 20th, and my trip today (July 21st) doesn't count.

And, as reported elsewhere, none of my rides are ever verified although I can certainly tell you they are bonified rides. There's definitely some serious bug here.

Anyone else having problems like this?

I am having problems w/my Garmin Edge 305 data uploads to MapMyRide.com. I am
uploading directly from my device & it appears that none of my
training data is being pulled across, even when I select the option in
the pull-down box "Map/Training Data".

The map shows route
w/mileage, but No training data. My route appears in the TDF Challenge
w/0:00 time. I shouldn't have to manually enter the data, when saving
the route. It doesn't appear to extract this data, even if I uploaded
a specific alternate file type when uploading to MotionBased, prior to
uploading the file to MMR...

Does MapMyRide Technical Support have a solution for this? I really like this site, but am considering locating an alternate means of tracking my training data.

It's not mountainous in Missouri, but it sure is hilly.

up/down. up/down...rinse. repeat.

I used to train with Carmichael (CTS) about 5 years ago and was in incredible shape. This contest has held up a big fat mirror to my face. I have been living in an illusion of, "I ride a bike. I am in shape."

I am not logging crazy miles right now, 180 in the last 8 days. But I hope my old legs start coming back soon. The contest is bringing back my motivation. Hopefully, I will get 20 in tonight.
