can't figure out how to map a ride using trails and not roads. Have unchecked "follow roads" and read "help" and forums. It keeps defaulting to roads or as the crow flies. Can I make the program search out trails along a route and follow them?

It is a bit of a bugger, isn't it - I do a fair bit of trail riding and find the lack of footpaths, bridleways and tracks on Googlemaps to be a right pain.

The best way I've found is to disable 'follow roads',  switch from 'Street Map' view to 'Satellite' view, and follow the paths manually - which can involve a lot of guesswork if they're under trees! Hardly ideal, and I'll be happy to hear if anyone has a better idea!

I use a Holux GPSport245 to map any rides that I've not already ridden..Saving with the easytour software then retrieving with MAPMYRIDE is easy !! The unit has been totally reliable..

Pezter: That's pretty much what I do and find it clumsy and inaccurate. Hope "they" work up a fix some day.

    Good riding!

You might want to give bikeroutetoaster.com a try using the "OSM" option for routing.  OSM uses the "Open Street Map" database for routing (www.openstreetmap.org), and they do have a lot of trails mapped out, although it can be a bit dodgy at times.  A local mountain hiking/mountain biking trail near me (Blue Marsh Lake in Reading, Pa) is mapped out on it.  I haven't tried any rails-to-trails routes, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was there.
