    Hi,

My name is Michael and I live in Brisbane, Australia. I have been on and off for running for about a year, but now live about 3kms from my office, so I've set a goal to run to and from work each day. I am trying to get my time down to about 14minutes for the track (it's pretty hilly) before expanding onto longer trails.

Enjoying it so far, I spent a lot of time looking for a Google Earth way to map my run, and it was only chance that my ISP ran an article about mapmyrun.com in their monthly newsletter!

    Hooray! Love the site...

    Michael

Hello, I'm Jim from Germantown, MD USA (suburb of DC metro)

    I'm a has-been decent runner, who recently re-started running.

A lower-back injury followed by loss of ability to maintain athletic routine, caused me to gain considerable weight thus the reason for my becoming a has-been, but was recently successful with Nutrisystem at losing most of the extra weight and returned to a healthy power-walking routine.  While my power walking doesn't match the pace of the Olympic race walkers, I do walk a mean pace >5mph.

When I exceeded 5.5mph for the 5.25 mile walk, I decided it was time to try running again, so started walking over to nearby HS track and running a few laps once each week to get my legs/knees used to the idea of running again.  Am currently only running 3 laps as hard as I feel comfortable doing, but intend on gradually increasing my lap count so will be running over a mile by end of this year.

The rest of week, I power walk around my community, see my routes on my profile page.

By next year I would like to power walk to the lake and then run around the lake before walking home.  Right now I am still in the weight loss stage and am pushing the 6-1/2 mile route to burn more calories until I reach my goal weight of 188# (17 more lbs)

Hi Everyone, I'm Naomi. (42rs old)  I'm originally from Japan, married to an american military man. I lived in Hawaii for the last 13years and recently moved to San Diego, CA.

I did gymnastic when I was a child, played vollyball from 7th grade through high school.  I started running about 3yrs ago (not the fastest one).  I recently started to  training for triathlon.

My wonderful husband has been an inspiration to me.  He is the reason that I want to stay healthy and do positive thing for myself.

He's received a order to go to Iraq for one year.  He is leaving next week.  He's been there for me when I do any races.  I am doing my first triathlon in October, but he won't be able to see it.  It's a little scary, but I don't want him to worry about me.

I will give all to finish this race, so that he can proud of me.

Hey. Tina, running for years, trying to put a tri under my belt. So glad to have found this place to track my training in a more coherent way!

I'm Stephen, a 45 y.o. married dad of 2, ages 3.5 and 6.5. A former runner (who spent the last 10 years letting my knees do my thinking for me, and not running), I recently started running to combat increasing weight. A friend (a marathoner) suggested I do an organized run in the fall to provide motivation, and so I'm training for a half marathon in Moab, Utah (The Other Half) in October.

My running in the past has always been driven by pursuing somewhat undefined speed goals ("Hey, I bet if I push really hard for the next couple of weeks I can drop down into the 6:30's!") Since I re-started I've been running without much of a plan.  For the past 3 months I've been focused mostly on trying to build endurance. So my runs have been slow and long. On each of the last two weekends I've thrown in  12 mile runs at 10 minutes per mile, but remain discontent with my speed. So I'm going to start pushing time again, This time using better information to guide my progress. This site, which I've been using to log my runs during the past couple of weeks, looks like a good place to keep informed. And it's always nice to comiserate.

     Cheers!

Hi everyone....I'm Kristen, 31 from the Cleveland, OH area.  I spent most of my life overweight, but over the last 1.5 years dropped almost 70 pounds.  Would still like to lose a bit more, but that will come in time.  I started running just a few months ago.  I'm a massage therapist in a sports medicine practice, and it's very hard not be be inspired by my clients.  I have several clients that are triathletes that have completed or are training for Ironman races.  Becoming friends with them over the years, I am so impressed with their dedication.  I will be running my first 5K in October with one of my friend/clients.

    Hello all,

My name is Wayne and I'm 43 and I live in Coventry, RI, married with 2 beautiful daughters.  I started running in Oct last year and really didn't do much of any running except in the Marines.  My wife is a 2nd degree Black Belt and my 2 daughters Taylor and Morgan 9 and 6 are into cheerleading and soccor.  So that leaves me with only a couple of hobbies, mountain climbing and fishing.  I felt like I was missing something in my life.

So I was inspired after reading the Ultramarathon man by Dean Karmazes and have been running since.  I used Hal Higdons half marathon training course and did my first half marathon in February this year and finished in 2:25.  I've done 3 more and have hit 2:02 so the 2:00 barrier will be falling soon.  My times for all races have been getting better and better.

I run anywhere from 25 - 40 miles per week depending on some speed training I do as well as my work schedule allows and all the kids stuff.  I start most of my runs at around 4:00 - 4:30 so I don't rob valuable family time.  I've gotten use to and love my 4:00 long run on Saturdays.  I have went from 211 lbs in Oct to my current 185 which is cool and keeps allows me to run faster.

    Great site here!

    Cheers,

Hi,  I'm Colin from South Bedfordshire, England.  I've just turned 50, I run 30-40 miles per week on average, mostly trail. I'm fortunate in that I have several rural sights of outstanding natural beauty on my doorstep; Dunstable Downs, Blows Downs, and many rural villages with rustic watering holes within easy reach.  I'm married with a 15 year old son - sadly, neither he nor my other half have the slightest inclination to take up distance running!

I've been running for a couple of years now, at first I found 3 or 4 miles hard work, but now regularly do 8 to 10 mile runs after a days work as a Customer Relations Officer with a certain car finance company.

My advice to anyone starting out is to stick with it - it gets easier day by day, and it's very theraputic in relieving stress and boosting your metabolism, engendering a general sense of well-being.

Hi, I'm Anna, 25, just moved to Milwauke from Chicago for graduate school. Have been a runner for 10 years- however just started taking it seriously about 4 years ago. Just finished my first triathlon season- 4 indoor tris, a supersprint, 2 sprints, and 2 olypmic tris. I'm now training for a 1/2 marathon in November. And plan on doing a few more halfs throughout the year, as I will be training for a half ironman next July.

I go by santaannarain.net and I have a website, but that's not why I'm writing this. I started run on Arbor Day of this year. I'm 54  years old and until then I always said I'm a hiker NOT a runner. But I ran a ten K Arbor Day run and avearged 11 min miles. This was intruging. I decided to try running and have been talked into, cajoled really, the Portland Marathon. I'm really worried. I think this is way to far way to soon. Any comments? Should I just do it (tm) or walk the darn thing?

Go for it - but take it easy, don't push yourself and make use of any liquids offered en route to ensure you don't get dehydrated.  If you do end up walking, so what?  Remember, some people don't even walk that far in a month.

Hello....Im Josh from Denver Colorado. Only been running for about 3 years off and on. Never been much of a sports person...except for extreme sports. One of my many "life" goals was to run one race before I die (just to see if I could do it). I chose the Bolder Boulder 10K and got hooked. 50,000+ runners and half of a city that comes and cheers you on. I am now training for the Denver Marathon, which is my first marathon. I just completed 20 miles today! I have to say Im not sure how I will muster up the energy to finish the remaining 6 miles cause I was hurting physically and mentally.  This website became a  key training tool for me when I found out about it.

Hi, my name is Jessi, 27, and I live in downtown Detroit. I'm 3rd year Ph.D. student and teach at a university. I'm a research nerd. I started running about 2 months ago as a result of two major events: (1) I turned 27, and for the first birthday in my life I actually felt year older, and (2) I went through a nasty seperation from my husband. When I started I could hardly make it a mile, a skinny weakling who liked to think I was "naturally in shape." To take my mind off things I kept practicing, kept running even on those mornings I didn't want to. Next month I'll run in the Detroit Marathon...but am only doing the half. I usually take one day off a week, and average about 4-6 miles a day with one long run thrown in the mix (9-10 mile run). Anyway, I'm really proud of myself for accomplishing something like this because I was the classic I-hate-working-out person. Wish me luck in the race!

    Hello,

My name is Tanya, I am 26 years old, married for 5 years, we have one beautiful 4 yr old little girl, and I live in TX.  I work as an administrative assistant for an executive search and consulting firm. I enjoy playing soccer and spend most of my free time practicing or playing. I love the game!!

I grew up watching my mom run every day and train for marathons but always swore that would never be me... b/c quite simply, while I have a natural ability to run well, I hate it. Well, obviously that isn't working out for me or else I wouldn't be here :)While I still have no plans for a full marathon, I am trying to train for a half in November.... life and motivation seem to get in the way though. Oh well, my goal is to finish and see what happens next.

I am looking for a running partner so if anybody lives in the Mckinney area and is looking for a running partner, let me know! Well thats about it.. take care!

i'm big-d from syracuse, utah.  i'm thoroughly non-athletic.  i ran the mile in hs to hide my inner theatre-geek.  (i never finished last!)  i have always enjoyed biking, especially mtb, but rarely had the time.  my wife "became" a runner almost two years ago.  i tried but only managed a few months on our treadmill.  this january we added our 3rd  son, and i felt the need to take my health seriously, instead of for granted.  i started running again, then to help my "runners knee," i started riding again to cross train and i remembered how much i enjoyed riding.  i now run 3-5mi or bike 9-12mi 5-6 days a week, and for the first time in my 35 years, i am enjoying exercise.  i have lost 20lbs this year, and can now average running at 6.5mph, and riding at 17mph.  i'm hoping to get some 5k's in soon, and then move on to duathalons or sprint tri's in 2008.  the greatest motivators have been my wife, (already back to pre-1st-child weight), and the training log on this site.

I've been running on and off ever since joing the US Air Force in 1986.  After 8 yrs of servcie I became a police officer so I continued to run more out of requirement than joy...though I did love the runners high I would usually get.  I got serious about my training in April as I decided to train for a triathalon to celebrate my 40th birthday.  I LOVED my long runs, and after reading Marathon Man by Dean Karnazes, I knew that distance, not speed, is what turned me on!  I did my triathalon in 2:45, 30 minutes under my goal of 3:15.  Two months later on my birthday I went out for a trail run and decided to run until I cound not run any more.  After 2 1/2 hours I was beat and completed 17 miles.  I LOVE trail running!  I don't do many races becuase I love the isolation of trail running.  I hope to work up to a 50 miler, but I will probably just go out and do it, rather than enter a race.  I also do circut training to keep up my strength, as it is neccessary when doing my job.  The world has become a violent place and my motivation to stay in shape is simply self preservation.  That is another reason I have to run...it keeps me sane after dealing with so much insanity at work.

I'm Jeremy from Indiana. I've been running probably 8 or 9 years.

I used all of my collegiate cross country eligibility last fall, but I still have a year of track left. I seriously considered foregoing my last year of eligibility and moving on with my life, but due to some personal circumstances, it turned out that running track was actually the sensible thing to do.

I'm trying to get my mileage back up and so far its going alright. I'm hoping to race a half marathon in a couple of weeks, and then do a few local 5k/10k road races and when track season comes around, I will probably focus on the mile/3000 (indoor) and 5k/10k (outdoor).

When I'm not in class or out training I work at a running speciality store, so if you have any questions about shoes and stuff like that, I can try to help you out.

I also enjoy cycling, but it takes so much time in order to get a good workout I cannot fit it into my schedule at this point in time. When summer rolls back around though, I expect to be hitting the roads pretty hard on the bike in addition to my running.

Good morning, Mary here in the burbs of Chicago. Never thought I would start running at 54 years old but here I am. Two sons are married, one daughter graduated from college and is working in Italy, another a senior who swims for SC Trojans and the baby attends boarding school near Princeton. So, here I am adding a new dimension to my life, running. I LOVE to golf so earlier when I gave my age I really had to think hard about doing that because I'd really rather give my golf index than my age! I play on the women's team of my country club and will play in a three day event in Naples next month. The running has been better than I thought and I continue to move forward toward goals I have set for next spring. I would love to have a running partner here in Hinsdale but I'm not doing great distances yet, so Benny the doberman is my running pal for now.

Good Afternoon!  I'm 44 and living in the suburbs of Detroit.  I've been running for several years, pretty much since my boys were in Preschool (now they are 10 and 12).  I find I have really missed running whenever I have pulled back thinking that I'm too old for this.

I am treading new ground and am training for my first half marathon.  I always thought that this was something not for me as a 10K race was quite challenging.  A friend suggested it and now we have a group training together.  It's been a very exciting and thrilling adventure and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I took up running last year but it's only in the last few months i've begun pushing myself.

I have just completed my first kind of marathon, the Cork Women's Mini Marathon which was 4 miles/5k.. i completed it in 38 minutes. Am delighted with myself at the moment.

I've lost over 2 stone since the beginning of last year, all down to running and looking after myself.

I'm delighted i found this site.

Hello!  I've been putzing around on this site for a few months now, but I'm really buckling down on my training b/c I've committed to a half-marathon in January and I am...uh...nowhere NEAR ready.  I'm hesitant to call myself a "runner"--"slow wheezy jogger" is probably more apropos--but I'd like to be able to call myself one eventually.  This site really seems to have great training and motivational tools, and combined with temperatures finally dropping below 100F in Arizona, I'm feeling well on my way to dominating this half marathon.  If by "dominating," you'll allow the interpretation of "finishing without dying."  Wink

Krista- Don't despair- you'll get there. When I started training for my half in May (my race is in October) I was very daunted at the prospect of getting up to 13 miles. What I found most useful was to have a plan for increasing my mileage, and then sticking to it (no small feat with two kids in the house and nearly constant snotty noses to cope with). I'm now running 10-12.5 miles on the weekends, with 6-7 mile runs 2-3 times during the week. Look up Hal Higdon's Half Marathon for beginners plan and stick to it and you'll be fine. And congrats on setting the goal. Having a specific goal out there has been the key to my running success.

     Good luck!

I have been working out, Lifting, football, basketball, sports, spinning and some lighter running for my whole life. I'm 25 yrs old. I have run many 5k races before but never really took to running hardcore, like running every or everyother day. Well I have made that switch, I now run at least every other day. It feels great, and I know my 3 mile runs are nothing to what most people do here, but I love it and it really shows in my other works out as well.

Glad to be a part of this forum, and I hope to learn alot from everyone here

A year ago I weighed 240... I'm down to 210 by diet and exorcise but I've really just started to get into running. I'm hoping to get under two hundred and I'm trying to run every other day. I'm college so right now i'm putting in time on the treadmill at the college gym. after christmas when i'm outa there I'll be running the streets. I'm hoping that by getting in contact with some people here I can stay inspired to run because it is the best way to lose weight!  I hope to learn alot from all the experienced people on here.

Hey. I'm Jeff. 37, married and 2 girls (4 and 2). Red Bank, NJ.

Caleb, it's good to see another big guy running. We're a testament that runners come in all shapes and sizes. At 220 lbs and 6 foot, I get the "You run?" response a lot from people when it comes up in conversation.

I've always been athletic and played men's club rugby for 13 years, until suffering a serious injury while playing on my 30th birthday. (They say you hit a wall at 30!) After a year of rehab, physical therapy and chiropractic care, I found myself once again healthy enough to be active, but looking for a new sport that wouldn't be detrimental to my health. So I began to run casually and would enter the occassional 5K to 5 Miler.  Then, a couple of years ago, I became friends with a new neighbor who was of like build (a little smaller-former wrestler) who mentioned he had run a couple of marathons and was looking to run another.  This inspired me, having, myself previously been clouded by the prejudice that "runners" were a certain body type.  So, 18 weeks later after the Hal Higdon First Timer training guide, we ran the Chicago Marathon together.

It was such a great experience (picture beefy guy in tears at the finish line) and I was able to raise some money and awareness for a good cause along the way.  Since then, our families have been close and he and I remain running partners (as well as fellow members to a neighborhood home-based boxing/fight club for men approaching middle age).  We are now beginning training toward another marathon on the Jersey Shore in May and this site is a great way for us to plan our runs and exchange training info.

I'm Kevin, 33 year old, living in Dublin Ireland.  I am currently training for my first marathon in Dublin on October 29th. I wouldn't describe myself as a pure,  or for that matter a natural, runner, as I usually mix it up with cycling, weights, swimming. I tend to go though phases of running, the 6 months of marathon training being the longest stint so far. I'm enjoying it in a perverse sort of way, and I am on the lookout for my next challenge.

     Cheers

    Hello All,

I think that I might be the only Aussie on this forum??? Anyway - happily found this great site, to map and track my progress.

I live in Melbourne, Australia and we are just entering into Spring - so the mornings are bright and lovely to run in. I live near to the city - so for me I get to enjoy the streets of Melbourne before all the hussle and bussle, as well as the joys of running down by the Yarra, and watch the rowers train.

I am 40, with two kids - 7 & 4, a lovely supportive husband and a crazy busy job in a big company. I have taken up running this year - and have proudly completed two charity runs - one for the Children's Hospital - 15kms, one for Breat Cancer research - 8kms, and on the 7th October -the Melbourne Half Marathon. It was awesome to finish, and to feel like I could have run a bit further!!

I am Jay.  37 years old and I have been running on and off since entering the Coast Guard in 1990.  I have 1 son, who loves to bike and paly video games, too much of the latter.  I began running regularly about 1 and half years ago.  I had never ran more than 6 miles, now I have run a 1/2 marathon, and regulary train in the 6 to 8 mile distance.  I started entering sprint triathlons this season and plan on moving up to International distance Tri's next June.  I am not that fast, but I love to challenge myself.  I have been a cop for 7 years and I have chased a few suspects on foot, I pride myself in running down perps who are in sneakers, shorts and t-shirt, while I am in boots, a wool blend uniform, and 18 lbs of gear on my belt.  Then being able to have the wind to read them their rights!  I also like the condition I am in for my primary passion: Surfing!  I hope to complete an Iron distance Tri in a couple of years, we will see.

I'm Erskien in Corona, CA 750,000 miles of Bicycle Road Racing and training later I've retired from the sport and taken up Bare Foot Ultra Running and wish I'd done it decades ago. I'm 50 with resting heart rate of 42 bpm. I love 2-20 hour runs with lots of hills. My favorite sites: http://www.runningbarefoot.org/ and www.barefootcareers.com

    I'm Charlie

I am 32 years old, married with 1 kid.

Motivation - the little voice in my head that wants to continually compete with myself.  My helps me keep my motivation as well.

Running - I run 2-5 miles at a time and nothing longer.  The good thing is I never feel pain!

It's not very fast, but I would like to run a 5K under 25 minutes.

Other activities - I also lift weights 5 times a week, so I'm a bit of a heavier runner, but I would like to continue to do both for balance.

My name is Ian Maurer. I'm 23 and married to my beautiful wife Rachel. I ran track and cross country in middle school, high school. I had a scholarship to run in college and I wasted it for 2 years before quitting. For the past 2-3 years I've been trying to get back into it and after watching Ryan Hall win the Olympic Trials I was really motivated and inspired! So I'm running again and following an old training schedule and then I will be following Jack Daniel's marathon schedule!

    Good day Runners,

I'm Iruz, 23 year old dude. I lived in the South East Asia Country. It's called "Singapore" I hope you heard of it. It's a tiny dot on the world map. Hope you can see it. Cool

I have a passion for sports especially running. I've been running since young. I remember how it's hard for an asthmatic dude like me to compete in running competition but after taking up training and tell myself that I can do and acheived it, alas my hardwork paid off. The doctor told me that I was free from Asthma when i was 13 years old. I was very happy and feel great! I never looked back since!

During my school years, i always keep pushing myself to the limits and i have been always the Top 30 for my school running events and 3rd for my school relay. And for the running and marathon events, i maintain my Top 50 position. There are a lot of potential and great runners in my country. So it's very competitive and there are a lot of running and marathon events throughout the year.

As for now, I'm still doing my runs and training runs. Been actively participated in running events competitively and marathon as well. My weekness is my knee and ankle. I hope there is someone who can guide and advice me on how to avoid this injuries.

My Next big goal/step is to joined the Triathlon. As I'm not a good swimmer myself. So currently taking up courses and stuff. I can cycle and run but not swim. So this is a challenged for me.

My motto in life is: You can always overcome challengers that approached you. It's the matter of your mind and body!

I'm also a founder of my club called "CLUBLEAP". It was started this year March 2007! All of my country running, marathon and sports events are updated daily! So pls visit my website if you are free! Thank you.

    The website is: http://www.clubleap.com

    God Bless.

Have a great mth ahead before the NEW YEAR!

    Regards,

    Iruz d:-)

    Hi everyone :)

I'm Josh, from Auckland in New Zealand! I'm 20 years old, and decided to get fit about 2 months ago after falling apart in a social soccer game haha! Running 3-4 times a week now, doing 80-100 kms per month at the moment, and hoping to stick to it.

Running at ~12kph which is about an 8.5 minute mile... Is that slow? I have longs legs so I'd hope not :P

    Cheers :)

Good morning (or afternoon ;-) all!

My name is Christy. I'm a new jogger/runner and also rather new to Bucks County, PA. I'm in IT (and have gained quite a bit because I tend to sit for hours on end) and want to get back in the shape I was in last year. I did the Livestrong Challenge 5k here in Philadelphia in honor of a family member, and I've been riding and jogging ever since. My goal is to work my way up to running a marathon, if it doesn't kill me.Tongue out

I'm Dan, from Mid-Michigan, father of 2 (4year old girl, 1 year old boy). I decided to start running again in October, after a personal tragedy. The man that died running the Chicago Marathon was one of my co-workers. I have pledged to run Chicago next year in his honor. Running over 5 k daily now (except this week, had the flu), I've got about 11 months to go, wish me luck.

    Hi All,

Mark here from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Happily married to a girl I've known since we were teenagers in Los Angeles, CA. We have 2 boys, 6 & 3yrs old, 2 dogs, 2 cats and an Oscar.

I'll be 42 next week. I'm a big guy @ 6'2', 249lb (down from 263lb 3 weeks ago) with bad knees, hips and back. I played HS & college football and surfed but I have never liked running. I always found it to be a chore.

I have been into heavy strenghth training most of my life but slowed down on that about 7 years ago and started brewing (and drinking!) beer instead. I quickly went from heavily muscled and strong to almost middle aged and flabby. I decided it was time to get lean.

So last year I started to "get into shape" by biking doing a scaled back version of Crossfit.   My problem is I that was just not "fit".

About 3 months ago my wife started running with our neighbor. Now they are running 5 miles, 3x per week. I saw how great she was feeling so 3 weeks ago I decided to take the dogs out for an evening run. I just about collasped after 2.39 miles. I thought I was going to pass out. But I've kept at it and now (sore muscles and all) I feel great. I bought some good shoes and even my knees and back feel better.

I ran this morning @ 5 am  in 4" of snow @ 30 degrees and it was awesome! For some reason, this time the runing bug really has me.

My goal is to do the Bloomsday run in 2008 and get down to 200lbs by the end of the year.
