A few nights ago I had a dream where I was training for the Bighorn race. I was running down a mountain road bounding in strides that could easily cover 10-15 meters per stride with ease. Then another runner training for the same race showed up. We ran together and I noticed an animal moving just below a ridge to the right. I pointed it out asking is that a bighorn sheep? Then the animal came down across the road and down the steep side on the left somewhere, it was a mountain lion. Better stay away from that ledge I guess. I was amazed it didn’t bother us when a bobcat jumped on the road hissing, but we were bigger and it moved off the road down to where the mountain lion must have been. I thought, good luck with your attitude down there buddy that cougar isn’t going to take that kind of lip from you. Sorry, bout your luck. Then when I looked to see what might transpire I pulled a big puppy from down below the edge of the road. Silly dream, I was having fun running. As I was thinking about it today it seems most of the time I am running in my dream it is against the wind and like I am not even moving. For as long as I can remember running against the wind has to be one of my least favorite things to dream. But when I was thinking about the effortless downhill gliding strides of the last dream I became pretty sure that I’ve dreamt that before too. What about everyone else? Any good or bad running in your dreams?

I've had quite a few running dreams. They all seem to be different variations of the same dream. I'm always in a race, sometimes it's on the road or in xc but usually on the track, and it always starts in the middle of the race. I am leading and the entire pack is about 10m back. (Usually it takes place back in high school, back when I actually won races) Suddenly I feel like i'm trying to run through the shallow end of a swimming pool where only my head is out of water. I never feel the least bit tired but no matter how hard I try I can't run faster. As the pack behind me starts getting closer I start to panic and try to sprint but it never works, then just as they are about to pass I get so frantic and desperate that it wakes me up.... every time. It's almost a feeling of severe claustrophobia(sp?) and the closer they get to passing me the stronger it gets. After I wake up I realize how stupid it is but in the dream it's an exremely intense experience. Every time I have a running dream this is the way it is, but at least I wake myself up before I lose ;). In most of my dreams I can manipulate what is going to happen or I can "rewind" my dream and do it again the way I want it. This is the only dream I've never been able to change.

I haven't had a dream that I was running in (that I can remember). But I did have a dream in which I dreamt that I got beaten in this road race by a lot of slower runners. I thought I got 6th or 7th place in this road race.

Luckily I woke up to my alarm and then went to that race and dominated, lol.

I just had another one last night. My wife and I were running and we were getting ready to go up a trail next to a stream and up ahead a spotted mountain lion heard us and stood up. It was right in the trail and was pretty interested in finding us coming up on it. We started to backtrack and it followed us slowly for a bit and then I don't remember any more.

This mountain lion business is really starting to make me wonder now.

I dreamt again that I was running downhill and my strides were really light and long. And as I was doing it I thought to myself awesome, I can really run like this and not only in dreams which made me laugh when I woke up.
