I'm new to Mnt. Bike riding, though not too new on bikes in general. Looking for some fun, EASY trails to start and anyone interested in riding.

If you are a rider or a group that goes out often I'd love to join you. If it's an out and back trail that I can cut short so I can work up to your level it would be great.

I don't want to interupt anyones ride, but riding alone would be stupid, ESPECIALLY at this point.

Check out Penasquitos canyon in the San Diego area. Fairly flat and wide. Small climb a few miles in near the waterfall. The southside of the canyon has more hikers than the north. I used to ride there all the time...lots of fun.

Thanks, I'll check it out when I'm in the area. At this point I'm a few miles east of Pasadena, so I'm looking mostly along the mnt. trails in this area.

    Again thanks for the input.

CAFreedom - I'm always looking for someone to ride with. Been on my mtn bike for about a year and a half so still a beginner. Just went clipless, so that's a new experience.  I've ridden JPL (off the 210 above Pasadena) a couple times and out in Agoura Hills.  I don't really care where the ride is...just up for new things.  I'm good for about 10 mile rides...2-4 hours depending on the pace, and I don't mind getting dirty or wet...that's what the bike is for!  Let me know if you want to go sometime.

Dirt Mulholland in the Santa Monica Mountains (Topanga State Park)is a great ride to get into mountain biking.  It's fairly easy fire road, although it has a few hills that can whip you into shape.  I used to use it as a training/recovery ride when I lived in LA.

Branching off of Dirt Mulholland is a plethera of trails streeking down the mountain.  The Sullivan Canyon trail is my favorite.

    Hello All,

My Computer fried a while back so I haven't been on for a couple months. Also haven't been riding lately so I'm way out of shape. Time to get back to it AGAIN.

ANYONE STILL LOOKIN' FOR A RIDE PARTNER?

Sure, definitely...although for the life of me I can't figure out how to PM or send an email to you or anyone else on this site. Am I missing the obvious??

    Hello,
Putting in a couple of weeks on the road bike to get my legs broke in, then I will be ready for some easy mountain bike trails. I don't know any, so where ever you ride will work. (Just keep in mind that I've been off for 8 months so the legs and lungs are struggling. I'm sure the legs will come back quick, but until then..??) Give me an idea (roads to get there) of where you think would be a good, easy first ride and we'll plan it.

I will look into a good ride...possibly a new place for me too (I'd like to do Malibu sometime, as I hear it's a nice ride up there).  Don't worry about your legs and lungs too much...mine are in just as bad shape!!  Due to work schedule lately, I'm only a weekend warrior, which doesn't leave me in stellar shape. You can email me at the same name above, at hotmail...we'll work out details.

    Hi y'all

I'm new to MapMyRide.  I recommend that you get the BikeMapDude laminated SoCal maps.  This includes Chesebro, Malibu Creek, Pt Mugu, Topanga State Park, and Zuma Canyon trails for mountain bikes.  It is a great map with levels of difficulty.  You can get it from the web or at REI.

Unfortunately there isn't a Angeles Forest (JPL) map yet.

    Cheers,

    Tino

Considering your location I'd recommend  the San Gabriel mountains (JPL is just a starting point to enter this area). There are a number of trails to ride, from beginner level to expert. This being the case it's best to go with people who know the trails. I suggest you take a look at www.SoCalTrailriders.org This site lists rides in all of the soutern Cal area and is a good resource for info. I'm logged on as Pain Freak there. A few other local areas that are more beginner friendly are Marshall Canyon (laVerne, about 15  to 20 miles from Pasadena) or Chino Hills, but it's closed at this time due to recent fires.
