Recently when I've either gone swimming (1k) or running (5k) or cycling (10k) in the mornings (normally only one type exercise per day), I tend to get really tired and want to sleep a few hours later.  I've had blood tests and have been told nothing is wrong.  I also ensure I have some carbs and protein before the event as I've been told this might be what I am lacking.

Not really sure if anyone can help or if this is something I've just got to deal with...any ideas?

Well I used to workout every morning as well and the same thing happened. I would always run in the mornings and then 2-3 hours later I would desire a nap. What i found out, is that i was wide awake for my run, i was well nutritioned, but sleep i guess wasn't enough. I was hyper in the morning but that happens to most people, you then go running and feel really great and wide awake and you sort of get an adrenaline rush. Unless you are really a morning person your bound to crash later on in the day. Most of the time i would take a 1-2 hour nap and feel great or i would fight through it. It's just a way of life and there is nothing you can do about it, except workout at night! One Love, Sean

i have exactly the same problem!! even if i go for a relatively easy run then i find myself way too relaxed, and then very sleepy. im wondering if maybe eating something straight after my training could help? its only a matter of a few hours and then i feel ok again, but i have to admit that i've had problems with anemia before, so i might have it again and that would probably explain the problem..

    hi all,

It happens to me as well and I really dont think there is anything at all wrong with it. Overtime your body will adjust to the amount of energy you are expending and you will feel less tired. After my runs I am starving and after some food if i do sit down i generally drop off to sleep. Funny though if I have things to do I'm generally ok.

The same here, after my walk/run in the mornings I would come home and be knocked out for an hour or two.  However, as I increased my training and endurance it stopped.  Now I cannot sleep after my runs.

I find that I'm more awake after exercise, if I exercise late in the day. If i do exercise after work, I find that I wont be hungry and I cant sleep til late. But my energy levels during exercise are ok.

However, if i exercise in the mornings, I have heaps of energy and perform a lot better, but will feel tired later in the day. If i fight the urge to sleep, I will get the start of a headache which developes into something really bad.

I suppose if i stick with it and increase my endurance to training in the morning as ericjacquie has done, it will most likely go ahead. Will have to see.

My problem is that I can't sleep after running a long hard run - even if I do it in the morning, though I normally train in the evening. I am awake all night with my legs buzzing repairing themselves and my mind totally alert and clear - anyone know anything that will help remedy this as it puts my whole weeks sleep pattern out and takes a few days to fully recover from the sleep loss

everyone here has had a question but no answe. except ericjacquie. most likely none of you are sleeping i go to bed at nine now and im fine, but i run at 3 and feel fine until bed. if you get tired still then get some energy. red bull , monster, amped, 5hr energy.
