Hi, I currently use spd pedals on my road bike and am leaning towards replacing them with Speedplay pedals. Just not been able to locate any info online as to which shoes are Speedplay compatible.

I have Look cleats on my trackie, but don't want to use those on the roadie.

All help will be great. Ta.

The Speedplay cleats work with 4 hole and 3 hole bolt patterns. I went from Look to Speedplay. Not sure if that answers your question.

Anyway, here is the Speedplay shoe fit web link:

I use SIDI with my Speedplays. I can't imagine a main brand shoe that isn't compatible. The only warning I've heard is to be careful with shoes with carbon fiber bottoms -- but I can't remember why.

My Specialized Road Pros ($180) with carbon bottoms are very comfortable with the speedplays. I get plenty of action with plenty of comfort, and inspiring power-transfer. You definitely get what you pay for in shoes... especially under $100!

Speed play comes with an adapter to go from four hole to three hole shoes. I would like to try some four hole sole just to see if they feel any different without the adapter. I use the speed play to compensate for wonky foot angles. (Industrial accident). My knees feel better on the bike than when walking or running. I can't imagine a more compliant pedal.

Found this at the Speedplay Compatibility web site:

4-Hole carbon-fiber soles must use Stainless Steel Wear Protector Shim Kit (Part #13290), sold separately and available from Speedplay, to prevent contact between the pedal body and carbon-fiber sole. Carbon fiber is a poor wear surface and unless a wear protector is used, damage to both the pedals and shoes will result.
