Restrictions

NO STROLLERS and NO DOGS in the 10K race since the race course is not closed to traffic. Strollers are allowed in the 1K, but DOGS ARE NOT.

10K Start Time and Course

The 10K begins at 9:00 a.m. in the upper parking lot at IDES (125 Hill St.) and travels down to Hill St. and then to Riverside Drive. It then continues south on Riverside Dr. and on Lyman St. until it reaches Amboy Road. The course crosses the French Broad and does a short loop of French Broad River Park before returning back to IDES. Course maps are available at: www.hotchocolate10K.com/raceInfo

1K Kids Hill Climb Start Time and Course

The 1K kids Hill Climb starts at 8:30 a.m. (with a warm-up starting at 8:10 a.m.) and begins at Hill St. and the Lower entrance (near Atkinson St.) to the IDES parking lot. It travels up THE HILL and does a sigle loop around the playground before finishing in the IDES parking lot at the same finishing line as the 10K runners. 10K Packet Pickup

10K Packet pickup is on race morning only and is located in the IDES auditorium from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. Timing chips will also be distributed at this time in the same place.

1K Packet Pickup

1K packet pickup and additional pre-registration will be located in the IDES Gymnasium and will be from at 7:00 - 8:15 a.m.

Race Information

Important race information will be emailed to all participants and posted on the race web site on Monday, January 18th. Please print or transfer them to your Smartphone and bring them with you to the event.

Shirts

The 10K race is capped at 800 entrants all are guaranteed to receive long-sleeve, colored cotton shirts. The 1K Kids Hill Climb will also be long-sleeved and may or may not be colored.

Time Limits

All 10K participants should plan on finishing the race by 10:30 a.m. Those still on the course at this time will have to stay on sidewalks and adhere to traffic rules until reaching the finish line.

First Aid & Water Stations

First aid will be available at IDES in the finish line area. Portable toilets will be available in the IDES parking lot as well as in the school for the kids. There will be four water stations on the 10K course (one more than last year) and additional water will be available at the finish.

Refunds & Substitutions

50% of the race entry fee will be refunded upon written request to the race director (tim@hotchocolate10k.com) prior to January 15th. As of Saturday, January 16th, 2010 there will be NO REFUNDS. Substitutions will be allowed with written permission of the person no longer running up to Monday, January 18th, 2010.

Directions & Parking

From I-240 W, take exit 4C. Turn RIGHT on to Montford Ave at the light at the end of the ramp. Then, immediately, turn a left on to Hill St. Parking will be available in the upper and back lots of Isaac Dickson Elementary School but your best for parking is the Asheville Chamber of Commerce lot which is located just off of Montford Avenue at Hill Street. Please don't park in their 30 minute guest parking located in their top lot.

Awards

Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female overall finishers and to the first male and female in the Masters Division (40+). Awards will go to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: 14&U; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; and 70&O.; Overall placers not eligible for age group awards.

New for 2010 - part 1

*We have capped the 10K race at 800 entrants and everyone will get a shirt; *Our website will indicate how many people are registered for the 10K and there will be a list of entrants. This will be updated nightly; *We will be using cups from Eco-Products and have recycling stations. Additionally, the only way to register for the 10K will be through Active.Com in order to limit our paper usage;

New for 2010 - part 2

*There will be a fully manned waterstop just after the finish line with plenty of cups of water; *The starting line sound-system will be much larger and pre-race announcements will be shorter; *There will be additional bathroom facilities; *VERY OBVIOUS mile markers and split callers at each mile; *In order to alleviate congestion at the finish and food/drink lines and to allow parents to run the 10K AND watch or run the Hill Climb with their child, the kids race has been moved to 8:30 a.m;
