location: Mexico City, Mexico distance: 21.57 mi. | Route Type: Bike Ride Tags: City, Flat, High Traffic Area, Urban created by: description: The 7th Mexico City "Cicloton" included a nice relaxed ride through some main streets in the city. Notably, Rio Churubusco and its interesting hills proved challenging for a recumbent and Patriotismo with its long straight downhill was a delight. location: Mexico City, Mexico distance: 587.01 mi. | Route Type: Bike Ride Tags: Beach, Big Climbs, City, Crazy Downhill, Flat, High Traffic Area, Long Distance, Low Traffic Area, Moderate Climb, Mountains, Quiet, River, Rural, Scenic, Urban, Very Hilly created by: description: This route is actually about 60 km longer than is shown, because of all the curves and ups-and-downs. There are some dangerous sections, but that's all part of the adventure, right? Leaving Mexico City is tough, pretty steep and about 35 km of climb. There are some fantastic views of the Valley of Mexico from certain points--be sure to open your eyes. The downhill to Puebla is very nice, through some nice forest! It is quite incredible entering the state of Veracruz, near Acultzingo. What a view. It's an incredible drop from there, 180 degree curve after 180 degree curve. I got up to 80 km/hr--braking. You'll definitely grit your teeth! Gotta be the best downhill I've ever done. Just be careful--a kid threw a rock at me, and it's easy to let it all get out of hand from the excitement, which means probable death. Eastern Puebla state is not very exciting. Straight road and dry dry dry. But there are some nice landscapes from time to time. It makes you really appreciate that entrance to green Veracruz, with views of Pico de Orizaba. And it's green. In the few km from Orizaba to Córdoba it turns from green but dry to tropical jungle. It's pretty humid from there almost all the way to the coast, where there's an extremely hot and dry stretch--and that was in December. Some great views leaving Salina Cruz of the mountains and Pacific, and it's an incredible sunset and sunrise! The road from there to Zipolite is narrow, hot, humid, curvy, lots of ups and downs. Careful. But there's nothing like getting to Zipolite after 7 days of travel. Wonderful place. Get naked, have fun, drink a beer, enjoy it all.
